Breath Of The Wild: How To Complete The Ancient Rito Song Shrine Quest

The side quests in Rito Village are normally fairly straight forward, particularly when it comes to the available Shrine Quests, though the Ancient Rito Song Shrine quest is a little different. Like several other Shrine quests, this one involves solving the riddle of a Rito song in order to find and unlock the appropriate Shrine, something that players have to do multiple times with Kass in particular.

After completing the Ancient Rito Song quest, players will have access to the Bareeda Naag Shrine, found just off the road that leads towards the bridges to Rito Village, though simply completing the Shrine Quest is only half of the equation as the Shrine itself has its own puzzle that needs completing in order to be rewarded with the Spirit Orb.

In order to begin the quest, players need to talk to Bedoli, a red Rito found in the upper levels of Rito Village. After speaking to her, she will tell you about an ancient Rito song that goes “The pride of the Rito, pillar in the sky, its heart lights up, when the sun is high”. This seems to indicate something to do with light shining through a pillar when the sun is high, which is the main part of the puzzle, but Bedoli can’t remember the rest of the song that completes the riddle. There is also a second verse that can be learned by another Rito in order for the riddle to make a little more sense, which can be learned by talking to Laissa, Bedoli’s sister, who is also in Rito Village.

After finding Laissa, she will tell Link the second half of the song, “The heart shines upon a path now whole, but a warming flame can stir its soul”. Although it can be hard to tell from the ground, the “heart” in the song is actually the shape of the hole in the spire at the center of Rito Village, which casts a shadow in the shape of a heart when the sun shines through it. The rest of the verse about the path and the warming flame refers to the pedestal itself, which is located south of Rito Village and can be spotted from behind the Akh Va’quot Shrine.

In order to open the way to the Shrine, players need to jump down to the pedestal with either a Bundle of Wood that can be turned into a campfire or a Torch with a way to light it on fire. The easiest way to get a fire going is to light the Torch on fire using the cooking pot found next to the Bokoblin camp, though players should be careful as there is a rather nasty Silver Bokoblin here that likes to throw exploding barrels at Link repeatedly.

The light will shine through the correct part of the spire at around 12:30 pm, so the easiest way to get the Shrine to activate is to place a campfire on the pedestal, wait until noon, then simply wait until the light hits the pedestal a few moments later. Link can also stand on the pedestal while holding a lit Torch, which will produce the same effect and allow the Shrine to rise from the ground.

Players should be careful around this area, however, as the aforementioned Bokoblins might stray from the camp and start to attack Link, as well as several wolves and Chuchu being present in the area that can attack Link if they spot him. After the heart-shaped light hits the pedestal, it should glow and unlock the Bareeda Naag Shrine, which will finish the Ancient Rito Song Shrine quest.

While simply completing the Shrine quest isn’t enough to gain the Spirit Orb, the Shrine puzzle itself isn’t overly difficult, especially if players have already completed the Vah Rudania quest to shoot Bombs out of Yunobo’s cannon. The puzzle is fairly simple in design, though it may take a few attempts to get the execution right and plays a lot like the Bombchu mini-game in Majora’s Mask, with Link needing to thread a Bomb rune through multiple obstructions to hit the target. Unlike the Bombchu mini-game, however, Link can have multiple attempts without any negative result and simply comes down to trial and error to guess the correct timing.

Although the Spirit Orb can be obtained after completing one puzzle, there is also a second puzzle in the far room that functions identically, only this time the target is moving and is much harder to hit. If players are successful, however, they will open the way to another, smaller room that contains a chest and a Diamond. In the first room, there is also a bombable wall, found facing the entrance to the Shrine, that hides a second chest containing a Falcon Bow.
