Season 2 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is on the way, and Activision has pulled back the curtain on just what fans can expect for the upcoming season. An earlier trailer for Cold War Season 2 revealed the new operators that will be joining the fray, but now that the roadmap for the season is out, fans have a much more clear picture of the season ahead. For fans of Call of Duty: Warzone, one ominous detail on that roadmap informs players of “a dark wave” approaching Verdansk.
While there is a strong contingent of the fanbase that would like to see a full-scale map change in Warzone, either through a complete overhaul of Verdansk or moving Warzone to a new map entirely, it appears they will have to wait. While the rumors of a new map have floated around for months, it seems that level of change is not ready for primetime yet. Instead, players will have to be content with incremental changes, and Season 2 looks set to provide some new areas for exploration.
In the latest Call of Duty blog post, details concerning Warzone and the state of Verdansk point to “new places to scavenge and scrap for survival” which likely means more areas similar to the bunker found under the airport runway in Season 1. The big ticket item this season will be the cargo tanker Vodianoy, which is making its way to the Port of Verdansk. The ship contains “unknown cargo” and should be approached with caution, according to the blog. Any new area added to the map does make Verdansk more interesting, and if the Vodianoy is well designed, it could be a fun place for players to explore.
The blog post also includes one line that harkens back to previous seasons of Warzone, bringing back the lore from Bunker 11 and the underground complex of missile silos in Verdansk. Saying simply “something major is beginning to rumble deep underground,” this line brings back that ominous feeling that disaster is not far off. While talk of something major happening has been peppered throughout previous intel briefs in Verdansk, perhaps finally there is some merit to this. Though previous “major happenings” like the Stadium opening weren’t quite as Earth-shattering as fans were hoping for.
Season 2’s roadmap should be enough to keep fans dropping into Warzone for the foreseeable future, as there is a lot of content to be had. With the confirmation of a new Zombies mode in Cold War, and the tease that something major is coming to Warzone, fans are likely still excited to see what happens next.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
