More updates are coming to Valheim, and one of them is going to include ship customization. Developer Iron Gate reveals more details about changes coming to Valheim, outlining the new content for ships.
The open-world survival sandbox set in a Viking-themed universe is seeing positive reception. Released on February 2, Valheim is already a best seller on Steam despite being Early Access. As a project in the works, Iron Gate is consistently seeking to improve the game. Part of this includes a Valheim roadmap, which only provided vague implications until now.
The third update that appeared on the official roadmap was simply titled “Ships and the Sea.” While fans could speculate that this would effect how ship and sea gameplay functioned, now Iron Gate has confirmed it. Specifically, the update will add in customization for ships and flesh out the sea biome more. Currently, the ocean is not as full as the other areas of the game, so the developers want to make sure it provides some more activities. The game itself encourages crafting tools and building structures, so ship customization makes sense as another type of personalization.
But that is not all for those currently enjoying the open world of Valheim. Iron Gate outlines the other three main updates coming in the roadmap too. The first, “Hearth and Home,” will add in extra items for building houses along with food preparation. The developers are being tight-lipped about update two, “Cult of the Wolf,” and only say it will focus on exploration and combat. The last piece of the roadmap, “Mistlands,” seems the most substantial as it adds in a new biome with enemies, resources, and a unique boss.
It looks like Iron Gate is latching onto the current success Valheim has received. In addition to these content teases, the team recently released an update patch fixing various aspects of the game. With an Early Access title, it is crucial that the developers continue to evolve the experience. If not, the playerbase can drop off quickly if fans think support is dying out. That does not seem to be the case here, and ship customization should provide plenty of extra content to explore.
Those excited for these updates should know there is still no official release date for any of them. So far, the only projection for the Valheim roadmap DLC is a release within the current year. With Ships and the Sea being the third stepping stone on the roadmap, it could be a while before players take to the ocean for more adventures. All of that aside, there is still tons of content for fans to enjoy in the title even as Early Access.
Valheim is available now in Early Access on PC.
