Ghosts ‘n Goblins: Resurrection Has Co-Op Mode | Game Rant

Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct featured several megaton announcements, from Pyra & Mythra joining Smash Bros to the reveal of Splatoon 3. However, among these huge reveals, several smaller titles got some equally exciting updates as well. This includes the news that Capcom’s upcoming retro revival, Ghosts n’ Goblins Resurrection, will feature co-op play.

A brief look at the game was featured during the presentation, showing off more of Resurrection‘s classic, difficult gameplay. The focus of this section was that Resurrection will include co-op play for the first time in the series. Sir Arthur will be able to team up with one of three supporting characters, each with their own unique abilities.

The three co-op characters are Barry, Carry, and Archie. Barry can act as a defensive partner, shielding Arthur from oncoming attacks. Carry can carry Arthur through the air, aiding him through difficult platforming challenges. Lastly, Archie can create bridges that allow Arthur to bypass either enemies or platforming sections. Each of these characters fills a purely supportive role, so they likely will not be playable in single-player.

Not much else was said about this brand new feature, so fans will need to wait until the game’s release for more specifics. The narration specified “local co-op” when describing the mode, possibly signifying that online is not an option. Online play would have been a nice inclusion, although considering the co-op partner takes more of a supportive role rather than an active one, the omission is at least slightly understandable.

Resurrection has the potential to be a successful revival for the classic series, but it still has a lot to prove. While the precise platforming and wacky tone are as fun as ever, the art style has had a mixed reaction among fans. Fortunately, the game is out in just one week, so players won’t have to wait long to see how the game turns out.

Ghosts n’ Goblins Resurrection releases for Nintendo Switch on February 25th.
