Bungie has revealed an expansion to its studio which will help with future storytelling. An extension to Bungie‘s worldwide headquarters will lead to new narratives for Destiny and more.
The game developer is famous for creating series like Halo and Destiny. Relatively recently, Bungie split off from Activision and set out on its own to continue expanding on Destiny 2 and create new experiences. Now it looks like the move has paid off, as the group is growing and redesigning its headquarters.
From the press release, the expansion is going to increase Bungie’s HQ from 84,000 sq. ft. to over 208,000. More than twice of the size, the plan is for the development to be complete in Fall 2022. The goal here is to focus on evolving the universe of the game through the creation of new stories. This 10 year long plan for Destiny will also be complimented by the developer’s plan to create unique worlds for its upcoming IPs.
But the construction of a bigger studio also serves another effect, supporting the employees. Bungie hopes that these state-of-the-art facilities will be key for growth and development of those working there. The design for the space involves a neighborhood style housing multiple project teams, including those working on IPs completely different from Destiny. The hybrid feel of the new studio should emphasize the company’s philosophy of creative collaboration between remote and on-site staff. The developer is also opening the first international office for publishing and marketing, which will be in Amsterdam.
This is certainly impressive news coming from Bungie, and paints a positive look for the developer going forward. Destiny is a series with a narrative that leaves many story lines without answers. Therefore, bringing on more teams to help improve this universe is a good sign. With more teams, fans of the sci-fi shooter may be receiving deeper content than in previous years. Plus, there seems to be new series in the pipeline which could help Bungie create an even more seasoned catalog.
Though, development of the expansion might be complete in 2022. Therefore, it may still be awhile before any meaningful changes happen for the community. Players knew that Destiny 2 would be a long-term project, but with its original release in 2017, it could be running out of steam. It sounds like Bungie wants to continue improving the game, but after all these years it may be somewhat antiquated even with the new stories.
