The Office star Craig Robinson and Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor are teaming up for a new TV comedy series. Robinson, most well-known for playing Darryl in The Office, is set to star in the new TV series, which will be featured on the new streaming service, Peacock, owned by NBC.
The details of Robinson’s new show were part of the network’s TCA announcement of newly ordered shows on Wednesday morning. In the same announcement, NBC also ordered 6 episodes of another upcoming show, Bust Down, which will star Saturday Night Live performer Chris Redd, with Lorne Michaels on board as executive producer.
Robinson and Goor’s new series will be a half-hour comedy and Peacock has ordered 10 episodes. The series was previously titled Killing It, but as of Wednesday’s announcement, it remains untitled. Peacock gives a general description of the upcoming series, describing it as a comedy “about class, capitalism, and one man’s quest to achieve the American dream. And also about hunting really big snakes.”
Robinson has been appearing in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a police procedural comedy series that airs on NBC, as con-artist and nemesis/friend of Jake Peralta, Doug Judy, a.k.a “The Pontiac Bandit,” since season 1. Despite only making one appearance per season, Robinson quickly became a favorite among fans for his portrayal of the character and undeniable chemistry with Adam Samberg.
Fans can expect Robinson’s new comedy series to potentially have similar humor and feel to Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Not only will Goor serve as both writer and executive producer of the new series, but another former Brooklyn Nine-Nine showrunner, Luke Del Tredici, is also set to serve as executive producer on the new Peacock series, alongside Robinson. Additional casting has not yet been announced, but it would be no surprise if other familiar faces showed up alongside Robinson.
The announcement of this new comedy is welcome news to Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans, who learned just last week that the series would be concluding with its upcoming 8th season. Hopefully, Robinson won’t be too busy with this new series to give fans one more appearance as Doug Judy before the show’s finale.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 is expected to premiere during the 2021-2022 season on NBC.
