The release of Square Enix’s NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is fast approaching, and with this, new information has come out regarding the title’s PC release. Steam’s upcoming games page has revealed the system requirements to play NieR Replicant on one’s computer, and fortunately, the specs aren’t too intensive.
NieR Replicant is a remaster of the 2010 PlayStation 3 game NieR, overhauling both the visuals and combat while retaining the same story. Snippets of released Replicant gameplay have shown that the visual overhaul is immense, bringing the game up to par with its critically acclaimed successor, NieR Automata. Now that the exact stats are out, PC players must know that they will need something a bit more powerful than a PS3 to run this game, but they also won’t need the most up-to-date systems.
The minimum CPU requirements is an Intel Core i5-6400 or an AMD Ryzen 3 1300x, both of which are approximately 4-5 years old. The minimum GPU requirement is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 or an AMD Radeon R9 270X, and the OS requirement is a Windows 10 64-bit operating system. The minimum VRAM requirement is 4GB and the minimum RAM requirement is 8GB. Lastly, the storage requirement on all devices will be 25GB, a reasonable number for a game this visually impressive.
As for the recommended specs, they vary in a handful of ways. The GPU recommendations are an AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 or an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660. The recommended VRAM is 6GB and the recommended RAM is 16GB, nearly double of the minimum amount. The CPU and OS recommendations are the same as their minimum requirements.
For reference, these stats are a bit higher than Automata on PC, but not to an unreasonable amount. While Replicant is a newer release, the file size is significantly smaller than Automata, which required 50GB of available space to play. The smaller file size is extremely welcome, considering how high file sizes can get for other titles these days. As for the rest of the requirements, they seem fair for a remastered game that was originally on PS3, pushing the boundaries in some ways but not making the game inaccessible.
Beyond this PC news, there is still a lot of unknown information surrounding NieR Replicant. It is definitely shaping up to be a fantastic rerelease, but it is a shame that the marketing for it has been rather downplayed. Even the news of the system requirements was hidden on the game’s Steam page rather than formally announced by Square Enix. Hopefully, Square will kick the marketing cycle into overdrive as the game’s launch comes closer and closer. The NieR series is on a rise after Automata, so fans can hope that it continues to flourish with this remaster.
NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is releasing for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 23.
