Zack Snyder’s Justice League Will Be Available Worldwide Upon Release

Since Zack Snyder announced his version of Justice League would be released on HBO Max, global audiences from countries without the WarnerMedia streamer have been wondering how they will be able to watch the fiilm. Now, Snyder has reassured fans that his version of the upcoming DC superhero movie will be available worldwide.

In a post shared to Snyder’s personal Twitter account, the director wrote: “Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be available worldwide in all markets on the same day as in the U.S. on March 18 via on-demand, digital download, linear, or streaming.” Snyder followed up the post in a thread stating that “platform availability will depend on each territory,” and that release dates for China, France, and Japan were currently TBD. He also wrote that additional details would “be shared soon”.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is arguably one of the most anticipated films of 2021. Snyder and Warner Bros have been promoting the hell out of the film over the last few months, with trailers recently dropping, exclusive images, and even a black and white version of the film being confirmed. Though it was announced that Snyder’s $70 million dollar restoration of the film would be coming to HBO Max in 2021, this left international viewers uncertain. HBO Max is currently only available in the US (although there is a plan to extend it to parts of Latin America in 2021), meaning fans from around the world would possibly not have the same access to it. Thankfully, it seems that Warner Bros will be going through the effort to make sure the film is available to audiences everywhere, but in what form still remains uncertain for some.

For instance, after some uncertainty, it was recently confirmed that the ‘Snyder Cut’ would be available in Canada on Bell Media’s streaming service Crave, which hosts many HBO Max original series and movies in the Great White North. However, when Wonder Woman 1984 was released in Canada on Christmas Day in 2020, it was only available to rent digitally for a whopping 29.99 CAD, despite being available in the U.S. on HBO Max at no additional cost to subscribers. Although Snyder has confirmed that Justice League will be available to international markets, it seems likely that some will have access to the four-hour remaster on a subscription-based streaming service, while others will likely have to rent or buy it for an additional price.

Justice League had a tumultuous journey, to say the least. Snyder stepped away from the film in 2017 after the sudden and tragic death of a family member. After which famed Avengers director and Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon was hired to complete the film in time for its original release date. The 2017 version of the film was widely considered a disaster; a poorly stitched-together film from two completely different directors. Fans were mad about the version they got and were quick to petition Warner Bros to release a rumored “Snyder Cut” of the film, which gained a lot of traction online and support from the stars of the film.

The 2017 version was further subjected to controversy when last year Cyborg actor Ray Fisher accused Whedon of “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behavior on the set of Justice League. More recently, Whedon has also been accused of toxic and abusive behavior by ‘Buffy’ actress Charisma Carpenter. Several other members of the ‘Buffy’ cast have come out in support of Carpenter and her claims.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be available on HBO Max on March 18th, 2021.
