After the trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released on Valentine’s Day, several conversations erupted on social media. From memes regarding Jared Leto’s Joker saying the “we live in a society” line to excitement over the inclusion of the epic villain Darkseid in the film, avid fans seem to have scrutinized the two-minute trailer to every possible detail. But, what they didn’t expect to see was the same trailer being converted into a parody of the Saturday Night Live opening.
Posted by Jason Gallagher on Twitter, the remake takes moments from the official Snyder Cut trailer and places the peppy SNL theme over the footage, along with a similar font to the sketch show’s credits. The presenter, who does an impression of SNL announcer Darrell Hammond, introduces all the heroes that will be appearing in the upcoming film, including Justice League members Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, the Flash, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Each hero’s scenes from the trailer are clipped together.
Continuing the SNL format of highlighting the featured players, the announcer goes on to introduce Steppenwolf, Lois Lane, and Alfred Pennyworth. While he is unlikely to break into a musical performance in the film, Darkseid is hilariously referred to as a “musical guest,” while the parody trailer ends with Jared Leto’s Joker being announced as “the host”.
Both the latter characters, Darkseid and the Joker, were missing from 2017’s theatrical version of Justice League. However, it was confirmed that they will both be making an appearance in the Snyder Cut and their scenes in the trailer only further confirmed that. While it remains to be seen how important their involvement in the project will be, just their presence has got fans excited.
Scenes of Darkseid were removed from the theatrical cut of Justice League back in 2017 after Snyder had to leave the project for personal reasons. Ray Porter, who had been cast to play the character before Snyder’s departure, was a part of the campaign that saw Snyder Cut come to life. The Joker, on the other hand, had to be included in the upcoming movie through reshoots, with Snyder revealing in past interviews that the conflict between the villain and Batman are “central” to the DC Extended Universe.
While the cheery vibe in the parody video is not at all similar to the theme of the actual movie, it received a lot of positive support on social media from fans of the Justice League. It was even shared by the official Twitter page created to promote the film. Many fans are excited to see Zack Snyder’s Justice League after having campaigned for it for years. With such high expectations at play, it will be interesting to see whether the movie manages to live up to them.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be available on HBO Max on March 18th, 2021.
