Ghostrunner Demo Releases on Consoles | Game Rant

Ghostrunner was initially released late last year and garnered generally favourable reviews. Now console players will have a chance to take the game out for a dry run as the Ghostrunner demo has just been released for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk world in which humanity is ravaged by violence and poverty. While it may sound an awful lot like Cyberpunk 2077, Ghostrunner has a completely different, ninja-based gameplay style, and might just be one of the most overlooked games of 2020.

The demo is available now in each of the console’s respective stores and gives fans a chance to get a taste of the game without having to purchase it outright. While the full Ghostrunner game is a roughly 8-11 hour endeavor, the demo features training missions that experienced gamers will likely be finished with in about ten minutes. Of course, many first time players could easily take quite a while longer.

News of the demo’s release was shared on Twitter by the official Ghostrunner account, which states that the demo runs fast enough to also work on the Xbox X/S via backward compatibility. Oddly, some Nintendo Switch owners are reporting that the demo runs better on the Switch than the full game does. Switch ports often suffer some issues on the less powerful hardware, such as the Doom Eternal Switch port that runs cutscenes at 20 frame per second, but it’s strange that a demo would run differently than the final game.

It’s possible that the Ghostrunner dev team optimized the Switch version of the demo to take advantage of the fact that it’s a much smaller file size than the full game. Regardless, no such oddities have been reported with the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions of the demo. Of course, as is often the case with graphics-intensive games, players who want the quickest access to new updates and the best experience overall may prefer to stick to the PC version of Ghostrunner.

The Ghostrunner demo being released on Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony platforms does help get the console experience one step closer to that of the PC, though. The demo has been providing gamers with ninja-based, off the wall action on the PC for a while now, ultimately selling many players on the full game, so the jump to consoles was almost inevitable. The game has been slowly picking up steam since Ghostrunner‘s release date was first revealed, and the console version of the demo will surely help the sci-fi ninja game find a brand new audience.

Ghostrunner is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X are currently in development.
