Death isn’t the end in Apex Legends. When it first launched, one of this battle royale’s defining features was a risk versus reward system which allowed teammates to grab a fallen ally’s banner from an item known as a death box. At this point, if the player can make it to one of the revive stations located around the map, the teammate can reenter the match. In addition, the player can return to their death box to grab their gear and continue on.
However, the dropped death box is also available for other Apex Legends as well. Taking an enemy or team out drops their gear on the ground in the box, allowing players to interact with it and loot potentially new and better items from it. It’s an essential tactic for players who want to continually improve their gear, as well as serving as a makeshift trophy for overcoming an enemy threat. That’s why, this latest bug has quickly become incredibly frustrating for players.
Following the big update earlier this month which added new champion Fuze to the roster alongside the 30-30 Repeater rifle and the Obliterated Kings Canyon map, it seems a few bugs also made it into the game. One of the biggest issues that has been quickly spreading through social media and sites like the Apex Legends subReddit is a bug that is preventing players from looting anything from death boxes.
The issue is apparently impacting both casual and ranked matched, which has a huge impact on the experience as looting from death boxes is a core gameplay mechanic. Reports, images, and videos have flooded in with most behavior linked to selected content disappearing for a split second before reappearing back in the death box like nothing had happened. For now, it appears the bug is locked to only death boxes as items found in chests and on the ground can still be picked up as normal. Still, the issue appears to be widespread so it’s likely only a matter of time before the bug is added to the official Apex Legends Trello board with a fix.
This death box bug is only one of a handful of reported issues that have seemingly been on the rise recently. Respawn recently addressed a couple of issues, including fixing one that caused the hidden Heirloom shards counter to reset before players could get their guaranteed 500th Apex Pack with shards in it. Jason McCord, design director on Apex Legends, also responded to fans regarding Loba’s Burglar’s Best Friend ability being unreliable. Players have had inconsistencies using it, due to either animation lag or the move simply not working at all. While a fix isn’t dated as of yet, McCord did say he was passing it along to the right individuals, so perhaps an update isn’t too far off.
Apex Legends is on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version releasing on March 9.
