Having released nearly four years ago, the Nintendo Switch remains one of the most popular gaming platforms on the market right now. With an extensive library of games to enjoy, along with a significant number of third-party games, the Nintendo Switch has achieved quite a lot of success during its commercial run. Although, after close to four years, there still has been no official word regarding an updated console model.
The Nintendo Switch Pro, or at least some upgraded version of the base Nintendo Switch, has been rumored to be in development for a number of years now. A lot of this has been built on various leaks as well as fan speculation, but what is important to note is that Nintendo has not made any official announcement regarding the existence of such a version of the Nintendo Switch.
If there was ever a good time to unveil the Nintendo Switch Pro, the most recent Nintendo Direct would have been it, but sadly no such news had been revealed. However, according to an industry insider, who goes by NateDrake on the ResetEra forums, an updated version of the console is set to release later in 2021. The user later went on to say that if it’s to be delayed until 2022, they will be informed of it in the upcoming months.
In addition to the 2021 release window, NateDrake also mentioned that the updated version of the console would utilize NVIDIA DLSS technology and would also support 4K functionality as well. While NateDrake has proven to be reliable in the past, it’s just somewhat hard to believe considering that Nintendo has not commented on it in any official capacity.
Right now, all there is to go off of is the behavior of other previous platform. Numerous improvements and revisions were made to consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, which subsequently released years afterwards in the form of the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X. Given how long the base Nintendo Switch has been on the market, it seems like an updated model is the next logical step at this point.
If any of these rumors do prove to be true, it will be interesting to see how the updated model improves upon the old one. Hopefully, the Nintendo Switch Pro addresses some of the ongoing issues that most Switch users have been experiencing such as the Nintendo Joy-Con drift. For now, members of the gaming community will have to just wait and see if the Nintendo Switch receives any kind of console revision.
