Leaked Call of Duty: Warzone Nuke Event May Destroy Verdansk Map

Call of Duty: Warzone is coming up on its 1 year anniversary, and rumors indicate that it may bring massive changes to the popular battle royale games. Multiple Call of Duty leakers, who have accurately leaked Call of Duty news in the past, have teased that Call of Duty: Warzone is blowing up the Verdansk battle royale map with a nuclear explosion.

According to the rumors, the Call of Duty: Warzone nuke event is going to take place on Thursday, March 11, at which point Verdansk will be blown up and a new battle royale map will take its place. The going theory is that the new Call of Duty: Warzone map will be based on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Fireteam maps and will be set in the Ural Mountains. Whether or not that comes to pass remains to be seen, but it will definitely be interesting to see if Verdansk is really going away or not.

Getting rid of the Verdansk map in Call of Duty: Warzone would be a massive gamble on the part of Activision. After all, previous battle royale games have upset fans when they made similar moves, but on the other hand, this could be the shot in the arm that Warzone needs to maintain its relevancy in 2021. A new Warzone map could not only excite those who are still playing the game regularly, but also bring back lapsed players who have moved on to other titles.

It should be noted that the Call of Duty: Warzone nuke event has actually been teased in-game as well. Ever since the Bunker 11 nuclear warhead was found in Call of Duty: Warzone last year, speculation has been running rampant about how the device could be used to re-shape the battle royale map. And that is another possibility that fans should keep in mind – maybe Verdansk isn’t leaving completely, but rather, being reworked via nuclear explosion.

Call of Duty: Warzone has two maps available to players at the time of this writing: Verdansk and the smaller-scale Rebirth Island. It’s possible that Call of Duty: Warzone will add a third map instead of completely replacing Verdansk, but no one can say for certain at this point except Activision and the developers. Of course, fans can’t discount the possibility that these reports about the Call of Duty: Warzone nuke event have been fabricated, so they should keep that in mind as well.

If the Call of Duty: Warzone nuke event is real, fans should find out by March 11. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if the rumors about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7 turn out to be true, too.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
