There is a chance that fans may get to watch the longest episode of WandaVision this Friday. A post on Reddit’s MarvelStudiosSpoilers subsection claims that Episode 8 of the popular Disney Plus show will have a runtime of 47 minutes. If this is true, the upcoming episode will bypass the current record held by Episode 5, “On a Very Special Episode…”, with a runtime of 42 minutes.
The leak comes from a Reddit user, “u/Plenty_Echidna_544”, who correctly predicted the length of Episode 7, “Breaking the Fourth Wall”, at 38 minutes and was even verified by the moderators. Though the source hasn’t been revealed and there is no official confirmation from Disney, many fans are now looking forward to the longer episode potentially answering some of their questions.
Despite its popularity, however, WandaVision has been criticized by many fans in the past weeks for its short episodes. While most of the episodes average around the 30-minute mark, the opening and closing credits seem to take up a lot of time, seven minutes as timed by many fans. Additionally, the runtime for each episode could vary slightly based on location. WandaVision episodes have been imitating a sitcom format, with each one adapting to themes from popular shows, which typically adhere to a 22-minute runtime for their episodes. While having longer episodes could take away from that format, fans continue to ask for more, especially since the season will only have 9 episodes in total.
When the series was first announced, there was a lot of talk about WandaVision having a total run time of six hours. Director Matt Shakman apparently revealed the same in previous interviews. Additionally, Paul Bettany, who plays the Vision, had mentioned in one of his interviews during D23 Expo 2019 that Marvel boss Kevin Feige pitched “this idea for a sort of six-hour movie.” This tidbit is something fans have held on to, with many now predicting the finale will be an hour-long, assuming the leaked run time for Episode 8 is actually true.
There are only two episodes remaining before the mystery of Westview is wrapped up. With last week’s episode finally revealing Agatha Harkness, the powerful witch, as the villain, next week’s longer episode should have enough time to cover the fallout. Fans are expecting a showdown between the two witches and there’s also the running fan theory about Pietro Maximoff being a fake, and potentially the demon Mephisto. Only time will tell whether that theory will be proven correct, too.
Episode 8 of WandaVision will air on Disney Plus on February 26, 2021.
