Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Update Changes Moscow Map

When Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War arrived, it was rightfully criticized for a lack of map variety. Still, Moscow was a strong point of the small map pool at launch, and it seems like Treyarch is removing one of the only criticisms Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans have about the map.

While Moscow has fallen victim to some glitches like disappearing care packages and players falling through the map, these issues have thankfully been fixed. As such, Treyarch has moved on to improving the core gameplay of Moscow, with the map’s size being changed in a recent update. Now noticeably smaller than it was before, players will be able to get into the action on Moscow much faster.

Moscow is not a massive map by any means, but a small issue players had with the map was that there was unused space on both sides. In the back corners of each spawns, there were areas that were never used by the player aside from being a potential spawn point. No fighting went on in these unneeded corners, and Treyarch clearly took notice of this. As shown in a post from @DexertoIntel on Twitter, the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War update completely removed these parts of the map.

While this may seem like a small change on first glance, as some players may not even notice the difference, taking these two large chunks out of Moscow could improve the experience in a big way. After all, the fact that players were spawning in these far-off areas made for some long and unnecessary walks back to the objective. With a few seconds being enough to swing a match one way or another, this change to speed up the map’s gameplay could make Moscow even more popular than it already is.

It will be interesting to see if these map changes apply to Prop Hunt as well. The popular party mode worked fine on the original version of Moscow, as the extra hiding spots provided by the cut areas gave props more spots to hide — creating a balanced match in the process. While the map will still be fun to play in the mode even with the changes, it may be best to leave the original version of Moscow intact for Prop Hunt, with the slimmed down version used everywhere else.

Regardless of whether the Moscow changes impact Prop Hunt, though, Treyarch taking steps to improve the game’s lineup of 6v6 maps is great to see. With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s most despised map Miami getting a rework as well, Treyarch seems to be putting a lot of effort into addressing fan complaints.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
