Destiny 2: 10 PVE Tips Even Pro Players Aren’t Aware Of

There is a wealth of Destiny 2 content on PVP, but very little on how to improve in PVE. Many content creators will display raids and missions, but without educating viewers on how to get better at playing Destiny 2. Professionals and streamers commonly focus primarily on PVP and do not offer instructional guides for PVE in general.

Players of all skill levels should ensure they are incorporating the below tactics to get better in PVE modes. The best players in Destiny probably incorporate the tactics below, but they may not be aware of it. With PVE still an ongoing and essential aspect of Destiny 2 gameplay, players can benefit from improving in standard PVE.

10 Manipulating AI

Every enemy race in the game has specific instructions. Through experience, players will develop a sixth sense with majors and adds on every mission. Some adds will retreat if faced with a large enough threat, and others will only attack up to a certain range. Once gamers get an idea of how the AI behaves on each mission, they can use that knowledge to their advantage. Great PVE players have put in the time to understand how the AI operates in each stage of a raid or mission

9 Advanced Positioning

Depending on the type of activity a player is participating in, different positioning tactics are required. A common theme in every activity is the final boss, or set of bosses at the end of each mission. Gamers need to understand and study the enemies they are fighting before they will have success in PVE. For example, if a boss or high-level enemy has a long-range attack, players should position themselves in a location where they can damage the AI without taking hits. Especially in solo raids and missions, players need to position themselves to remove add enemies before taking on the boss. One of the keys to dominating in PVE is positioning near different forms of cover. Players can DPS until they have no shield and seek multiple types of sufficient cover.

8 Attacking And Defending

In PVE, players need to develop a sense of when to push AI and when to seek cover. Obviously, the right timing depends on what class and what build a player is using. However, all players should get a feel for when the AI is vulnerable and when they are vulnerable. Gamers should be defensive when they have to deal with a lot of adds to avoid being overwhelmed. Likewise, players need to be offensive when they are not threatened and have effective sightlines on bosses and majors. An effective way to get better at timing attacks and defensive tactics is to evaluate every death in PVP. Players can analyze what they did right and the potential cause of their demise. By treating every death as a learning experience, players will develop offensive and defensive awareness.

7 Weapon Skill

Gamers that are struggling in PVE need to use the right weapons, and gain experience using all types of classes. The best PVP guns are not necessarily the best PVE weapons. In fact, the most powerful PVE weapons are not very good in PVP. To improve in missions, gamers need to have a wealth of knowledge with different weapons, as not every raid is the same. Destiny 2 players will often get obsessed with the meta weapons, but the meta may not be what a player needs to defeat the majors and bosses. Solo players must be able to use multiple weapons to have success in PVE playlists.

6 Ammo Efficiency

Ammo conservation is extremely important in PVE. Players will be tempted to use their favorite weapon all the time, but Destiny 2 players only have a finite amount of ammunition. Every boss will have a different hitbox, health bar, and vulnerability. Good PVE players always make sure to save their most important ammo for the final fight. Additionally, players need to hit their shots to conserve ammo. At times, a grenade, ability, or super is just as effective as a weapon. Players need to combine efficiency, timing, and awareness to complete missions flawlessly.

5 Movement And Speed Runs

Destiny 2 is a movement-based game, and players that want to improve in PVE should learn the best movement strategies for each class. For example, Hunters need to understand when and how to use the character’s dodge abilities to move from open areas to cover. Warlocks can skate, and gamers need to practice skating tactics in PVE. Titans have specific movement advantages as well, and players should understand each character’s weaknesses and strengths. Players that would like to improve their movement should practice speed runs to learn how to avoid enemies and move creatively throughout each mission.

4 Damage Per Second

Top Tier PVE players are excellent multitaskers. Gamers need to be dealing the maximum amount of DPS to as many enemies as possible. In raids, there are adds, majors, and bosses that squads need to take care of. To properly eliminate all three classes of enemies, players need to combine the use of grenades, gunfire, abilities, and supers to deal the most damage possible. While not all raids and missions are the same, players can take the same general approach in PVE. When enemies are grouped together, players will have more success taking them out with grenades, explosives, and supers. Spread out majors are more easily defeated using longer-ranged weapons while using abilities and advanced movement

3 Class And Subclass Proficiency

It is imperative that PVE players master all the subclasses of each class. Every subclass has specific areas in which the class excels. Each raid and mission will require different abilities and approaches. As a result, squads will need multiple classes and varying subclasses for each activity. Experienced PVE gamers know how to use each subclass and can adapt to every scenario in a mission. Gamers that get comfortable with a Hunter, for example, will struggle in missions that require a tank or healer.

2 Have A Meticulous Approach

One of the biggest mistakes even professional players make is indiscriminate gunfire and tactics. PVP gamers should have a diligent plan when fighting multiple enemies. Solo players should focus on one class of enemies at a time to streamline the process of eliminating opponents. One of the most effective strategies is to eliminate the adds, then the majors, and then focus on the boss. Admittedly, it is not always viable to eliminate all of the adds without fighting the majors, but players can generally use the strategy to have success in PVE.

1 PVE Progression

Most gamers are not ready to go straight into Nightfall time trials on their first day playing Destiny 2. Nearly all PVE players can benefit from playing at a lower difficulty in missions before attempting to complete them at the highest difficulty. Practicing time trial missions at lower difficulty is a great way to improve movement and overall awareness. Gamers will have a much better experience if they master missions at lower difficulties before attempting daunting raids at the highest difficulties.
