Today, Square Enix and People Can Fly revealed Outriders broadcast 5: “Into the Fray”. As many may know, these tend to be very information heavy detailing everything from each class to PC specs each time one pops up. With the Outriders demo launching on February 25th, this one was heavily geared as to what players could expect from it, but it came with several goodies as well.
Some of the content showcased today was for the second time, such as the Mantras of Survival trailer and the PC specs breakdown, but there were a lot of details added on top of that. This included everything from demo details on missions, side missions, and classes all the way to the reveal of Outriders‘ custom Xbox Series X controllers (made in collaboration with Pope Art). Indeed, while every broadcast has provided players with a ton of information, this one manages to build tons of hype for the forthcoming demo.
Outriders has four unique classes: the Pyromancer, the Trickster, the Devastator, and the Technomancer. This demo will allow players to check out every single class, level each of them up to 7, and transfer them to the main game when it launches in April. As such, many players may spend time with each, or some, of the classes in order to decide which one to “main” Outriders’ full story with at launch. Game Rant recently sat down in a group interview with Outriders‘ creative director Bartek Kmita and lead game designer Piotr Nowakowski, and with this in mind, we had to ask if they had any recommendations for how players could go about playing and trying to narrow down their class pick.
Of course, Kmita couldn’t recommend any particular class over another, as if none of them were fun, PFC would have likely just removed the class. He also said each class has something “unique inside it” and some “unique gameplay,” but as the Outriders demo will allow everyone to jump into these classes, Kmita did have some straightforward advice:
You have to test it unless you have really, really strong experience with shooters. For example, if you like to be the sniper guy, you probably shouldn’t choose the Devastator, which is more of the close-range damage dealer or tanking guy. Of course everything in our game has to be complicated. This doesn’t mean, later, when you understand the game, [that you can’t] build it differently like making a close-range assassin into a sniper guy.
Notably, while these classes have their particular niches in the early game, People Can Fly seems to really encourage players to build their character however they want. Turning the close-range Trickster into a long-range sniper build will be interesting, just as it would be with the Devastator. As players learn more and more about their classes, the more they can break from these character roles, and that sort of player freedom in the end may go a long way in Outriders’ longevity.
Outriders releases April 1 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The demo releases February 25.
