Square Enix Releases Opening Cinematic for NieR Replicant

With the release of NieR Replicant just two months away, Square Enix decided to treat eager players to the debut of the game’s opening cinematic. The three-minute NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 intro offers an extended look at the game’s revitalized graphics and beautifully remastered soundtrack.

Published by Square Enix, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 serves as a remaster for 2010’s cult action RPG, NieR Replicant. The NieR series is a spin-off of the Drakengard series set in a universe where Earth has decayed and the human race is on the brink of extinction. The NieR franchise garnered newfound attention after the incredible success of its follow-up title, NieR: Automata, which recently celebrated a major sales milestone on its fourth anniversary.

Fans of the original NieR Replicant may find the cinematic familiar, and for good reason. The opening cinematic is a shot-for-shot revamp of the original game’s title sequence, featuring revitalized music and a complete graphical overhaul. Newly recorded voiceovers by the original voice actors for Kainé and Grimoire Weiss accompany the visual tour through NieR Replicant.

The cinematic cuts quickly between the game’s various locations and pivotal characters. Outside of the main cast, players are introduced to key characters like the Masked People, Yonah, and Devola. Some of the game’s vicious enemies make an appearance, including scenes from the deadly Hansel and Gretel encounter.

One of NieR’s most recognizable features is the outstanding music direction led by Japanese composer, Keiichi Okabe. The cinematic includes fan favorites, including the haunting “Emil / Karma” track which concludes the cinematic.

Square Enix has been generous in sharing a wealth of content for the NieR Replicant remaster. The developer recently released a video showing off over nine minutes of gameplay set in the Barren Temple. After exploring the mysterious temple, the protagonist begins to exhibit all of the bells and whistles of the newly updated combat system. Gameplay appears noticeably smoother and the temple itself has been brought to life thanks to the enhanced capabilities of modern consoles.

For NieR fans willing to spend a little extra cash for some exclusive collectibles, Square Enix revealed NieR Replicant’s White Snow Edition. The White Snow Edition can only be pre-ordered from Square Enix’s online store for $159.99. Though currently unavailable, a waitlist is available for sign-up to alert interested customers about upcoming restocks.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is releasing for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 23.
