Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Will Fix Zombies Outbreak Mode Bugs

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans have been eager to try out the ambitious Outbreak mode, with the concept of open-world Zombies appealing to many fans. However, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have run into some major problems when attempting to play a match.

A messy launch certainly takes some hype away from Outbreak’s sudden arrival, as players were thrilled about getting access to a new Zombies experience so soon after Firebase Z launched. With some fans even finding ways to play Outbreak early, excitement was at its peak prior to the mode’s debut. Unfortunately, the mode has some major issues when it comes to stability and performance, though the good news is that Treyarch has already promised a fix for these issues.

While Zombies Outbreak features several objectives that add variety to the mission-based gameplay, some are causing the game’s frame rate to tank quickly. Others are causing the game to crash, and players have been citing the Retrieve objective type as particularly troublesome due to the mission not working as intended — though Treyarch thankfully mentions it by name as one of the key issues being investigated. The Trials machine also seems to be causing major problems, with the optional challenges failing to provide rewards on occasion.

Another major issue mentioned is tied to two specific special enemies, the Plaguehound and Hellhound. While the former made its debut in Die Maschine, the latter has been attacking Zombies fans since 2009. Both enemies have similar functions, though, with the canine opponents rushing the player and surrounding them in fire or gas when killed. In the current build of Outbreak, stability issues seem to be caused by this pair of enemies, with frame rate dropping whenever too many of the dogs spawn into the map.

The final issue that is currently being worked on by Treyarch deals with Call of Duty Zombies’ iconic Ray Gun Wonder Weapon, as a prevalent bug is seeing the special gun destroy player armor through splash damage. Fortunately, this is not a move to nerf the Ray Gun, a wise decision considering that splash damage is harmful enough as is. Though Treyarch does not have an ETA on a patch for this splash damage bug or the plentiful frame rate problems, fans will be happy to know that the issues are already being worked on.

It is also worth noting that the community seems to be positive on Zombies Outbreak even with the current problems. Players filling the tweet’s replies with comments like “10/10” and “it’s so fun” is a great sign, as fans seem to be enjoying the parachuting and vehicle mechanics of the mode quite a bit.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
