Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS4 Version Upgrades to PS5 for Free

Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched for the PS4 as a timed exclusive in 2020 and received mostly positive reception. It was an exemplary remake of the PS1 classic, but the remake only covered a small portion of the iconic JRPG. Fans have been waiting for an announcement related to the second part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but during the State of Play today, no mention of a sequel was revealed, however, there was some news that should have fans excited.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake released before the PS5 launched worldwide, so the game doesn’t take much advantage of the next-gen console’s power and capabilities, but Square Enix has announced that the title will be getting a PS5 version in June titled Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade that will have faster loading times, improved textures, improved lighting, quality of life features, a performance optimization mode, a new difficulty mode, and even a new photo mode.

And during the final moments of the brand-new trailer showcasing all of the game’s upcoming features, it was revealed that fans who purchased Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4, either physically or digitally, will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version in June at no extra cost and save data can be brought over as well.

And as for the new story episode that stars Yuffie, players can purchase it after upgrading to the PS5 version but the cost of the episode is currently unknown. Judging by the lengthy gameplay trailer that was shown, fans can expect to pay about $15-20 for the bonus content.

Those that decide to grab the Digital Deluxe Edition of Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade will get a bonus digital mini soundtrack and a digital artbook with concept images. And those that pre-order the digital Standard Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition will get a bonus Cacstar weapon that can only be used in the new Yuffie episode.

As for the other announcements during the State of Play presentation, Sony showed off a brand-new trailer for the upcoming action game, Returnal. Crash Bandicoot fans also have something to look forward to as developer TYoys for Bob has released details on the PS5 version of Crash 4.

As of right now, there is no confirmed release date nor window for the next chapter of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Now that more story content is coming to the base game, it’ll be interesting to see when Square Enix decides to unveil more details.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will launch for PS5 on June 10, 2021. The regular version is still available for purchase on PS4 currently.
