Just over two weeks ago, Terraria developer Andrew Spinks canceled plans to bring the game to Google’s Stadia cloud platform. Spinks had been locked out of his Google accounts with seemingly no notification and was angry at the company as a result. It now seems that those plans are being reverted. Terraria‘s developers announced today in a State of the Game update that Terraria‘s Stadia launch remains on-track and moving forward.
According to the Terraria team, it took around a month of pushing Google from both the developers and fans of Terraria for the company to look into why Spinks’ Google account was locked. From there, Google was apparently very helpful and transparent about the situation. All of Spinks’ accounts have been restored and access to them reenabled.
Due to the Stadia team’s efforts to fix the situation, as well as publisher 505 Games‘ work to resolve all ongoing issues, the announced cancelation of Terraria on Stadia has been reverted. Terraria is once again going to be released on Stadia in the future. Spinks himself has made no public statement regarding the change of plans or his comments, which included saying that the bridge between him and Google had been burned.
It’s possible that, regardless of Spinks’ words on social media, there were contractual obligations to deliver Terraria for Stadia that influenced this action. Spinks not saying anything on social media certainly implies some further frustration with the situation. For Terraria fans, the issue can be considered resolved. Now, they just have to wait for a release date.
Terraria is in development for Google Stadia.
