The Mastiff shotgun may be receiving a change in Apex Legends in the near future. Respawn Entertainment’s high-octane battle royale is constantly being updated and tweaked both in terms of content and gameplay improvements. Recently a patch was implemented into Apex Legends, but there are still areas of the game where players would like to see improvement. The Mastiff shotgun is one weapon that might be adjusted sometime soon.
Season 8 of the battle royale is very much in motion, as Apex Legends is currently celebrating its three-year anniversary. With each new season comes a new Legend, often a new weapon, map overhauls or sometimes a new map entirely, meta changes, and more. But in-season updates also allow for tweaks and improvements.
Recently a member of the Respawn Entertainment development team gave fans a heads up that the next patch notes for Apex Legends are quite large, around 3,000 words in total in fact. One fan responded in hopes that the Mastiff shotgun will be addressed, something that Respawn has talked about in the past. Josh Medina, the producer at Respawn, responded with the ever-popular “eyes” emoji, indicating that it is a very strong possibility.
The specifics of the probable Mastiff change are, of course, not yet known. But some type of nerf is expected. Respawn has talked about the Mastiff being overused, and that it is a high-tier weapon during this season of Apex Legends, and even before. However, it could also be that the weapon is tweaked to be more consistent and fair as well. The gun is very hit or miss. One-shot can hit feel dead center and only hit for 13 damage, and the next can be a devastating blast of 104. That is the nature of shotguns, since they consist of pellets, but there are plenty of situations in which players feel like accurate shots do not result in the proper damage output. So Respawn could be working on nerfing the power of the weapon but also tweaking it so that the gun feels a bit more consistent overall.
The ongoing support of Apex Legends has helped it remain one of the top-played multiplayer titles in gaming. Whether it be new weapons or Legends or META changes like slowly tweaking Wraith in Apex Legends so that she is no longer the most used Legend in every single lobby, Respawn is attempting to keep the game alive for the long haul. A combination of new content and gameplay improvements is a great way to make sure that a game has continual fun things to do while also maintaining a fair environment to enjoy it in.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will release for the Switch on March 9.
