Hot Wheels Is In Pre-Production On The Batmobile From ‘The Batman’

In a time where any news on The Batman is gobbled up with glee, it seems Hot Wheels has found their time to shine. While fans wait for any more information on the DC film, a leaked image of the toy car company’s movie tie-in product looks a little different than some may have expected. Apparently, the Dark Knight transitions well to toy versions.

Reddit user ThaddeusJP took to the site to post some pre-production images of Hot Wheels’ take on the Batmobile from Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. At 1:64 scale, it’s obviously not going to have the detail of a full-sized vehicle, but without its trademark dark color scheme, it kind of just looks like a regular tiny muscle car. Of course, that’s to be expected since this is a pre-production image. The silver and blue colors are simply those of the parts themselves.

It’s no tank-like monster like the Christopher Nolan version of the Batmobile or carnival-ride-on-wheels as seen in the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher films, that’s for sure. The latter design may be the iconic sort of Batmobile that gets its own TV series, but there’s something to be said for being different. Hot Wheels nailed the shape of the bulky-looking vehicle and once it gets the final touches, it’s sure to be a quality piece of merchandise, as to be expected from the company. Even little details like the line up the side indicating the door seem to be in place.

Still, it seems to drive home (no pun intended) just how different the iconic vehicle will be in The Batman. Those who have been keeping up with news on the movie have likely already been familiar with the new design for some time now, as the reveal last year certainly sparked its fair share of buzz. The idea of Batman driving a rather regular-looking (if still pretty imposing) muscle car will probably feel appropriate given the more gritty and less stylized version director Matt Reeves is pursuing.

Besides, it’s not the only time Batman’s signature car has taken a rather unusual approach. Even back in the ’60s during the Adam West days, the Batmobile took on a decidedly typical design, looking like just a slightly more flashy version of something people might already see on the street any given day. More recently on The CW’s Batwoman, her fancy, high-end version of the vehicle definitely stands out, but still looks largely grounded.

This is just one more little bit of info to keep stringing eager fans along while they wait for more substantial news on The Batman, but hopefully, a few collectors out there will be happy to see progress being made on what is sure to be a new member of their display walls soon enough. It should look nice right next to their Hot Wheels Star Wars X-Wing.

The Batman is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 4, 2022.
