Elden Ring Fan Turns Iconic Trailer Moment into Pixel Art

Waiting for news about Elden Ring has proven to be a challenge for its dedicated fanbase, but in order to make the process easier, they’ve come up with some pretty creative stuff. Fans could spend hours reading fake Elden Ring lore created by fans to fill the gap in marketing material, and there’s plenty of amazing fan theories and artwork for the game as well. Now Redditor annawintery has made their own contribution with a recreation of one of the trailer’s most iconic scenes, but there’s a twist. The whole thing is done up in a stunning pixel art form that’s as eye catching as it is impressive.

For those that haven’t kept up with Elden Ring‘s development, the reveal trailer for the game was shown back in 2019 at E3, but since then there has been little to no news about it. Scraps of hope have been found here and there in small updates from industry insiders or the developer, but beyond that fans aren’t sure when to expect the game.

Annawintery’s pixel art recreates the scene in the trailer where a figure holds up what appears to be a decapitated arm. After a short while, other arms come into frame and start grabbing at the person. This scene is fairly creepy to watch, but it fits with the aesthetic that fans have come to expect from FromSoftware. The accompanying voice line seems to mean more now than it did back in 2019, however. “I doubt you could even imagine it,” also the caption on annawintery’s pixel art, seems to be taunting fans that still know nothing more than they did a year and a half ago.

In response to annawintery’s art, fans are extremely supportive. Many compare their art to a professional piece of work in a pixel game, while others simply shower on praise to the artist. In turn, annawintery seems grateful for the praise and equally proud of her work. This type of thing is reminiscent of the Bloodborne PS1 remake or other retro takes on the popular Soulslike franchise.

For the time being, there’s nothing new to report on Elden Ring, but that may well change sometime this year. The most recent rumors claim that fans may finally get an official update sometime this March, though these are just rumors and should be taken as such. Regardless, in the meantime fans can avoid going hollow by appreciating amazing work by annawintery and other talented artists in the Elden Ring community.

Elden Ring is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
