Sorry Elden Ring Fans, Microsoft Says No Big Xbox Game Reveal Event Coming

Elden Ring fans thought they might finally get another look at the game during an upcoming Xbox event. Unfortunately for those who were getting their hopes up after all the Elden Ring frustration, it turns out the rumor isn’t true.

It’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride for Elden Ring fans over the last year. The more devoted members of the community aren’t shy about how long they feel they’ve waited for some solid news about a release date. Rumors about the game tend to pop up regularly, though they are often shot down not long after. Such is the case with rumblings that a new trailer would be featured at an upcoming Xbox event. Accompanying that talk was that the trailer might even finally divulge a launch day.

On Sunday, Xbox’s marketing director, Aaron Greenberg took to Twitter to shoot down the latest Elden Ring rumors. Greenberg quote tweeted an article from DualShockers making the claim that a new trailer would be shown on March 23 at a supposed showcase. The exec not only shot down the report about a trailer, but he also said there wasn’t any Xbox event planned that would divulge any game announcements or world premieres.

Part of the problem with everything on the web about the much-anticipated game is that Elden Ring fans are even creating their own “leaks” while they wait for real news. With active misdirection efforts from some in the community, it can be difficult for even the most hard-core fans to apparently know what’s genuine.

Elden Ring was first announced back at E3 2019. Since then, the fanbase has expressed frustration with the lack of a steady flow of updates. The game eventually went 500+ days without solid info on when it might be releasing. There were very few updates even showing more of the title.

What is known is that Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is working on the story. The public was told it would be a fantasy game. They also know Martin is collaborating with Dark Souls developer From Software on the project. Beyond that, info including just where the fantasy story is going to take players has been scant. From Software also did hint that more information on the project would arrive in 2021. Now almost three months into the new year, there still haven’t been any new trailers or screenshots. Greenberg’s announcement means fans are going to have to wait at least a bit longer.

Elden Ring is currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
