With a new month, comes new critters for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to catch and donate to Blathers’s museum. In March, plenty of fish have arrived in the ponds, rivers, and seas including the extremely valuable golden trout for both areas of the world.
Since Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched in late March 2020, many players may have missed out on catching some of these fish or missed March entirely due to the Switch’s popularity when lockdowns started. For this month, both hemispheres get a good selection of new fish to reel in.
All the new fish for March in the northern and southern hemispheres are listed below. Extra information such as where and when to catch each fish, the size of its silhouette in the water, and how much it can be sold at Nook’s Cranny for, is also included.
- Tadpole | Pond | All day | Tiny | 100 bells
- Loach | River | All day | Small | 400 bells
- Cherry salmon | Clifftop river | 4pm – 9am | Medium-small| 1,000 bells
- Char | Clifftop river | 4pm – 9am | Medium-small | 3,800 bells
- Golden trout | Clifftop river | 4pm – 9am | Medium-small | 15,000 bells

- Cherry salmon | Clifftop river | 4pm – 9am | Medium-small| 1,000 bells
- Char | Clifftop river | 4pm – 9am | Medium-small | 3,800 bells
- Golden trout | Clifftop river | 4pm – 9am | Medium-small | 15,000 bells

A lot of the new fish in March are quite easy to catch for both hemispheres, with a few fish in common too. Any Northern Hemisphere players should spend a while combing their beaches for manila clams to make fish bait, and looking for a barred knifejaw to hook. This bait can then be used to reliably spawn fish in clifftop rivers in the hopes of catching a cherry salmon, char, or the rare and treasured golden trout.
Meanwhile, Southern Hemisphere players should also use their bait in rivers up in the cliffs, but also need to keep a rod at the ready for any shadows in their river mouths. Two huge fish, the king salmon and the sturgeon, can now be found swimming around the points where rivers meet the sea.
With Animal Crossing: New Horizons reaching its first anniversary, some players may have now completed their museums and Critterpedia entries, so why not celebrate at the weekend with a song from K.K. Slider.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
