Call of Duty: Warzone is no stranger to bugs and glitches, though the latest is one of the most intriguing seen in the free-to-play game thus far. For whatever reason, some Call of Duty: Warzone players are finding an extra opponent in their Gulag fights, though they are not exactly threatening.
Call of Duty: Warzone’s second chance battles via the Gulag are one of the game’s standout features, helping it to stand out from other battle royale games in a meaningful way. Since their debut, these fights have always taken place between two dead players, with winners being given a second chance at life and losers needing to spectate or leave the match. However, a new bug is seeing players fighting with two opponents rather than one.
A Call of Duty: Warzone fan named Minimus Max posted a clip of the confusing moment online, with the fight taking place inside the Nuketown Gulag as opposed to the showers variant. As soon as the fight breaks out, Minimus Max notices a “ghost” in his Gulag. The player is confused by the player, who moves to the left before completely disappearing from the screen. Despite the odd moment, Minimus Max remains focused on the action, killing his opponent with a crossbow shot and progressing with his match.
This Gulag “ghost” is certainly interesting, and while a logical guess would see players considering that someone broke into the Gulag using a recently discovered glitch, the fact that the Operator completely disappears goes against this theory. While nobody knows for sure what happened in the clip, it seems like this “ghost” was not actually a player at all. Likely just the character model lingering in the area before being redeployed into Verdansk, the clip is equally spooky and funny.
While a proper, 3v3 gunfight did not take place, it would certainly make for an interesting change to the Gulag. While a new map would likely need to be added that is built to hold three players, the mechanic could be experimented with in a new game mode. An extra feature could be added that sees players that kill both opponents respawning with a full loadout as opposed to a pistol, placing more importance on the result of every Gulag battle. Still, Call of Duty: Warzone’s 1v1 fights have become such a part of the game’s DNA that it seems unlikely they will ever change.
Considering that Verdansk may soon be getting nuked and replaced with a new map set in the 1980s, the Gulag could be getting a new arena that fits the Cold War aesthetic as well. For now, though, players may want to look out for some “ghosts” inside Call of Duty: Warzone’s prison.
