Marvel Studios has been on an absolute roll this year. With the smashing success of its Disney Plus series WandaVision and a packed 2021 line-up of highly-anticipated film and television releases, it doesn’t look like the studio will be slowing down any time soon. In fact, their success has been so tremendous lately that the projects they still have in development are already being projected for multiple-season runs, including Ms. Marvel.
Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, was on the set of Ms. Marvel when he addressed the idea of second seasons to the Television Critics Association. He began with WandaVision, stating that there’s a chance it could still go on to a second season even though the limited series was always intended as a segue into the Doctor Strange sequel. He said the same for Ms. Marvel, saying that a second season is possible after the titular heroine crosses over into the Captain Marvel sequel.
Additionally, She-Hulk and Moon Knight, which star Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters and Ethan Hawke respectively, are currently being developed with a structure that could allow for multiple seasons. Feige says that any follow-ups to these shows will ultimately depend on how each story plays out, as well as whether or not there is a demand to see those tales continue. “We are developing all of these shows the way we’re developing our movies,” says Feige. “In other words, when we start with a movie, we hope there’s a part two, we hope there’s a part three.”
Disney’s recent acquisitions of Marvel properties also opens up a plethora of opportunities for MCU crossovers. Aside from the Disney/Fox merger, which brought home the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, the company has also managed to reobtain the rights to The Defenders from Netflix, which will allow them to use characters such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and Iron Fist.
In fact, they may have already done so—one of the most buzzed-about theories at the moment is that Matt Murdock/Daredevil could appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. The next Spider-Man film, which releases in theatres this Christmas, is expected to continue the multiverse storylines dominating each of Marvel’s latest projects, meaning MCU crossovers such as this one are more than feasible.
Actress Iman Vellani, who portrays the titular heroine of Ms. Marvel, is not the only newcomer to the MCU who will be leaping from television to the big screen. Teyonah Parris, who made her first appearance as Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, will join Vellani opposite Brie Larson in director Nia DaCosta’s Captain Marvel 2 as well.
Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight are all currently in the works at Marvel Studios.
