The Witcher 3: Every Kind of Beast In The Game | Game Rant

Geralt faces a lot of enemies in The Witcher 3. Some are human but most of them are not. With monsters such as vampires and golems, it’s easy to underestimate more common beast. However, just because some animals and monsters are more usual than others, it doesn’t mean it’s easy to defeat them. That’s especially true if they’re traveling in packs or if magic had an impact on them.

As a result, Geralt has to be careful no matter where he goes. Some beasts are prone to jump at him when he least expects it. Others have a relatively small area where they appear but they can still cause a lot of trouble for the Witcher.

9 Dogs

Dogs are one of the most common creatures in The Witcher 3. Pack of wild dogs roam the woods and attack people who cross their way. They kill multiple people throughout the game. Geralt should kill them whenever he encounters them in the woods. If he does, he will protect people this way. The best way how to fight the dogs is to use the Beast oil and not let the dogs swarm Geralt. A shot of Igni is also a good way how to deal with them.

8 Wolves

Wolves are even more common in The Witcher 3 than wild dogs. They also primarily live in forests and move in larger packs. As a result, Geralt should do a lot of dodging when he fights them. It’s worth killing as many wolves as possible in the game. Not only does Geralt learn extra money this way but he also protects wildlife. If Geralt kills a lot of wolves in the forests, more wildlife will appear there. Wolves appear in Skellige a lot and some of them have beautiful white fur.

7 Wargs

The name warg might conjure up an image of a terrifying creature. But that’s not the case. Wargs are very much like wolves, except a bit stronger. The way to fight them remains the same. Geralt can use Igni or Aard to push the warg away and then finish the animal off. Wargs usually travel in a pack of wolves, but only one warg at a time.

6 Bears

The world of The Witcher 3 is full of bears. The bears most commonly live in the forests. Unlike wild dogs or wolves, they don’t tend to live in packs. That means that when Geralt encounters one, he won’t have to find multiple bears at once. The best Witcher signs to use against bears are Igni and Axii.

The most interesting bear encounters Geralt has in the game happen both on Skellige. The berserks at the coronation feast turn into bears and Geralt fights them. And then there’s the bear Olaf whom Geralt has to defeat in a fistfight to become the champion of Skellige in the quest Fist of Fury.

5 Wild Boars

The wild boars were an unpleasant surprise for many players. They appear more prominently in the first DLC Hearts of Stone. Geralt can also encounter them in wilder areas of Toussaint. The wild boars are fast, vicious, and move in larger numbers which can make fighting them quite a challenge. It’s possible to slow them down with Yrden. Using Igni against them also helps.

4 Big Bad Wolf

Geralt only encounters the big bad wolf if he decides to find Syanna in the Land of a Thousand Fables. If Geralt goes to see the Unseen Elder instead, he and the big bad wolf won’t meet.

Big bad wolf fights in a similar way to werewolves. He’s strong and fast so it’s best for Geralt to dodge his blows. Unlike normal wolves, he can talk and is grumpy and miserable. Geralt has to kill him to complete the quest, there’s no way how to let him stay alive.

3 Three Little Pigs

The three little pigs are other creatures Geralt can only encounter in the Land of a Thousand Fables. They attack like the above-mentioned wild boars. The only difference is that these pigs live in a house and wear hats. They can’t communicate with Geralt and are aggressive when Geralt destroys their house with the Aard sign. The best strategy is to use the Beast oil and not let the pigs swarm Geralt since they can easily kill him this way.

2 Panthers

Unlike most beasts on this list, not all panthers will automatically attack Geralt. Some of them leave him be if he doesn’t provoke them or attack them first. The panthers live in Toussaint. During the Big Game Hunter quest, Geralt has a choice. He can either slay the panthers or leave them be and even help one instead. That will get him bonus points from the contract’s issuer who doesn’t want to hurt animals.

1 The Beast Of Beauclair

Geralt eventually finds out that the mysterious Beast of Beauclair is the higher vampire Dettlaff. But before that happens, the Beast’s identity remains hidden. Multiple eyewitnesses of his attacks describe Dettlaff in various ways. Geralt realizes who’s he facing when Dettlaff confronts him and tries to kill him. Luckily for Geralt, his old friend Regis appears and stops Dettlaff from murdering Geralt as well.
