There is a new patch out for Valheim, adding in various fixes to improve the game. Developer Iron Gate has revealed the contents of the upcoming patch, which include changes to servers and more in Valheim.
The new open-world survival game takes players into the ancient world of Vikings. Despite being in Early Access, Valheim is already a top seller on Steam. From combat to crafting, exploring the map with friends is a large part of the game’s identity. Now Iron Gate has released an update that aims to smooth out the multiplayer experience for players.
When it comes to the patch, the main change deals with setting up dedicated servers. Rather than depending on Steam Datagram Relay, these types of servers will now utilize direct connections. For players, this means that there should be much lower latency while gaming together. Just put in the “-public 0” command to initiate a private server, which friends can join with with “Join IP” button. Iron Gate also mentions that these updates should resolve many of the connection issues that were cropping up from previous patches.
There are plenty of other minor improvements coming in the update as well. Some Vikings were getting launched through the air while entering dungeons or leaving portals. In addition to resolving that problem, Iron Gate also added in a change to prevent picking up items while going through portals. Those facing off against too many wolves will be happy to learn that procreation has been nerfed slightly, and there is now a much lower chance of a boss trophy speaking to players.
Improving the multiplayer aspects of Valheim is definitely the right direction for the game. Since there is an extensive roadmap for the game, fans will be more concerned with smooth gameplay at this point. Nobody likes to have connection issues while playing with friends, so it is good that Iron Gate is focusing on making that better. The other fixes are icing on the cake, and show that the team is prepared to keep honing the experience going forward.
Though, it does look like this patch is another minor one for the game. Those hoping for a big content update will be waiting longer for more news from Iron Gate. While the cooperative element is strong, the PvP focus in Valheim may be less than what some fans hope for. As an Early Access title, consistent updates are key to keeping the playerbase intact. However, the current patch for the game will at least improve servers for those enjoying multiplayer.
