One Piece is based on the hit Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It follows the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who gained the superhuman power to manipulate his body like rubber after eating a mystical food called a Devil Fruit. Luffy and his crew of Straw Hat Pirates travel the world in search of a treasure called “One Piece,” which will allow him to ultimately become the next King of Pirates. The manga series is so successful that it has set a Guinness World Record for “the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author.” As of February 2021, it became the best-selling manga series in history, having sold 480 million copies in 43 countries across the globe.

Toei Animation began producing the small-screen adaptation of One Piece back in 1999 and it became a critical success among Japanese audiences. Soon after, an English-language release was produced by 4Kids Entertainment in 2004 and Funimation in 2007, which further expanded the franchise’s fanbase. Today, One Piece remains to be one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, captivating the hearts of anime lovers all over the world with its television and film offerings.

Fox Entertainment purchased Tubi in 2020 in a $440 million deal that was part of the company’s growth strategy. Tubi already has a built-in library of over 30,000 movies and television shows, as well as a solid base of over 250 content suppliers. According to Lachlan Murdoch, the CEO of Fox Entertainment, Tubi is on its way to becoming a “billion-dollar business,” which was the main appeal of the acquisition.

Other anime series that are part of the content deal includes Toriko, Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho, Ge-Ge-Ge No Kitaro, Slam DunkSaint Seiya: Hades, and Dr. Slump. The last two titles in that list – Saint Seiya: Hades, and Dr. Slump (which comes from Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama) – will have the option for English subtitles for the first time ever, according to Tubi.

One Piece is now available to stream on Tubi.
