Terraria has become a big game that players can sink their teeth into, expanding the content as far as a sandbox game can go. Covering all bases, you can spend hours upon hours exploring the base game and still have more to find.
Mods have taken the already sprawling map and added to it, creating a living, breathing world that will drag the player into the landscape. Adding enemies and increasing the difficulty, it’s hard to find a mod that won’t improve the game in a big way. However, with so many floating around, a few stand out among the rest and change the game for the better.
9 Collect Everything – Magic Storage
The ultimate convenience for those players who like to stock up on items and resources, the Magic Storage mod takes all those chaotic chests that can only hold 40 stacks of items and combines them. This makes organizing loot a lot easier while being able to access them all in one spot.
This also works for the upgraded storage units, giving players even more space to explore the world and bring back goodies. It can even keep Etherian Mana safe and sound, and overall, saves players a lot of time between scouring their many chests.
8 Speed Mine – VeinMiner
VeinMiner will help players save time when they have to get a lot of a particular resource, immediately mining the entire vein that’s connected to the first hit. Making so much of the map more easily mined, you can get right down to the fun part and get to building.
It also makes crafting items easier by oversupplying the character with material, making those hard to get weapons more easily accessible. It will be half the time before players are running around in the late game gear without any of that dull grind.
7 Make A Plan – Boss Healthbar
While it isn’t a big change to the mechanics or looks of the game, the Boss Healthbar is a great addition for players who need a sense of how much damage they have left to do. It helps to budget out time and know how much risk you can take throughout the fight.
With fights this big and that last for so long, it’s easy to get lost in the sauce and end up pulling the trigger too early. While there isn’t a time limit and it’s not always bad to go all out, this will help keep the end goal in mind.
6 RPG Gameplay – KRPG2
One of the more ambitious mods that actually pulled off an entire energy change, KRPG2 takes the sandbox game and turns it into a fully active RPG. Players can now level their character and have a permanent upgrade that can’t be sold or destroyed.
Other RPG mods have come and gone, but this clean mod has recently gotten an update that carried it over and made the whole experience better with the new Terraria update.
5 Become Goku – Dragon Ball Terraria
The crossover that players didn’t know they needed. Players can now become a Saiyan while mining for materials with the help of Dragon Ball Terraria. Going so far as to add transformations that cover a lot of the series, it turns the base world into a nostalgic treasure chest for fans to explore.
With new weapons and furniture even being included, Dragon Ball Terraria has covered all the bases. A new ki energy system being added so players can take down their enemies with an energy blast, Terraria’s now mixing universes.
4 Build A Mansion – Imksushi’s Crafting Mod
Being one of the top 10 mods in the loading system is no small feat, beating out some of the other more dramatic changes for balance. The crafting mod, Imksushi’s Mod, simply adds more recipes and brings some very useful items to the table.
It’s a must-have for players that have finished a lot of the content and are looking for something new without changing the world. The goal is balance; a goal that’s met and then some with nothing pushing the bar too high and making the game feel easy.
3 Change The Music – Legend Of Zelda Wave
Sandbox games in general tend to have some of the most popular soundtracks in gaming, probably because players spend so much time with them. Then enters the Legend of Zelda soundtrack, one of the most celebrated of all time.
Replacing the generic beats players are so used to with the soothing sounds of Zelda, Legend of Zelda Wave takes them to a whole new world. Even if the Legend Of Zelda isn’t their thing, there are other series to choose from and give the player complete control over their soundtrack.
2 Challenge Yourself – Eternity Mode
Mods were originally made as a parody, one of the most popular being replacing nazis with smurfs in Castle Wolfenstein. Then people quickly realized that they could add an extra layer of difficulty to some of their favorite titles, upping the skill bar and handing out bragging rights.
Eternity Mode is exactly that, changing the enemies’ behavior and adding debuffs to their attacks. Not only the enemies but the terrain changes as well. This mod basically alters anything that makes players’ lives harder and turns it up a notch.
1 Save The Townspeople – Friendly NPCs Don’t Die
Ending off on a happier note, Friendly NPCs Don’t Die will save all the friendly NPCs from the wrath of whatever enemy players decide to fight. It takes away the possibility of collateral damage while players slowly become the hero of the town.
Combined with other mods or left in the base game, it’s always nice to have some characters that aren’t actively trying to attack the player. This is especially true when needing to buy supplies from them or to simply keep the cozy atmosphere of the game.
