Apex Legends Reveals New Chaos Theory Collection Event

The latest collection event to come to Apex Legends, Chaos Theory, will bring massive updates, including a new Caustic-themed town takeover, a new escalating limited-time mode (LTM) focused on the ring, and a new Heirloom set for Bangalore. The event, which starts on March 9 and coincides with the Nintendo Switch Launch of Apex Legends, will last for two weeks and will bring the usual 24 premium cosmetic items required to unlock the heirloom set, as well as a free rewards track.

The new Caustic town takeover will be a permanent change to Kings Canyon, the first Apex Legends map, and will also bring the removal of Mirage Voyage. A lot of the features and new items have been teased recently by in-game lore, such as the Caustic town takeover, or leaked long ago like the Bangalore heirloom set.

The Chaos Theory event brings a huge change to Kings Canyon’s most southerly point of interest, Water Treatment. Now under the management of toxic-trapper Caustic, the new facility, Caustic Treatment, houses some gold loot for any Legends willing to risk temporarily draining the toxic liquid. The new Ring Fury escalation event will add expanding “ring flares” in the safe area while normal battle-royale rules apply. A swathe of new cosmetics will be added for the duration of the event, including new skins for Pathfinder, and Caustic, and the new Pilot’s knife heirloom for Bangalore.

Because the new Ring Fury event is what Respawn is calling an escalating takeover, the mode will replace the standard trios and duos queues and changes will come every few days to spice things up during the two-week event. On the Apex Legends blog, it was clarified that players will be warned about ring flares appearing through minimap icons and Legend callouts. Once the event is over, Bangalore’s knife heirloom will go into the store and can be purchased with 150 heirloom shards, which some players may have lying around after the recent Anniversary collection event.

There are so many changes coming with this update that will certainly shake up the current meta. With loot adjustments made across Kings Canyon and the addition of Caustic Treatment, the south of the map now seems like a much more appealing drop point for Apex Legends players. It seems that Respawn is leaning hard into the takeover LTM as it allows them to test out new features under the guise of a fun, special mode, especially after the outcry of support for the most recent Locked and Loaded LTM, which could become a permanent fixture in future.

While the Chaos Theory event brings a lot of interesting new additions and balance changes to provide some variety, the escalating feature of this LTM might prove to be a bit annoying, much like Season 4’s Deja Loot LTM which saw daily and weekly changes to fixed loot locations. If the ring’s behavior changes every few days, some Apex Legends players may be confused by the mode and left with no alternative except for ranked play. At least Bangalore players will be happy to finally get their hands on the heirloom knife which was leaked by data-miners way back in Season 6.

Apex Legends is available now for free on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
