The Best Changes in Hollow Knight: Silksong As Revealed So Far

Team Cherry has yet to announce a release date for Hollow Knight: Silksongthe highly anticipated sequel to the Metroidvania Hollow Knight, but fans are still excited by the gameplay reveals that have been teased so far. Together with princess knight Hornet as the new protagonist, Team Cherry have also hinted at major gameplay and mechanic changes from the original game.

Hornet will bring a more agile playstyle to the series, as she has the ability to fight at long distances and is more nimble than the original Knight. Along with the combat changes, Team Cherry has also revealed new mechanics such as a brand new quest log and a crafting system for Hornet. Though there are some big changes coming, Hollow Knight: Silksong promises to recapture the magic of the original Metroidvania elements.

New to Hollow Knight: Silksong is the introduction of a quest log system, where players will be able to track their quests and hunts during the game. Team Cherry has emphasized that Hollow Knight: Silksong will feature NPCs and the quest system much more than the original game. Unlike the original Hollow Knight, where player actions naturally changed the outcome of NPCs, Hollow Knight: Silksong will have a quest log system where players can track their progress. Team Cherry has confirmed that Hornet will have the ability to talk and interact with NPCs in depth so the quest system will be important for players interested in the lore of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Though the finer details have yet to be revealed, there are supposedly four different categories of quests available in Hollow Knight: Silksong: Gathering quests, wayfarer quests, hunts, and grand hunts. The gathering quests are fairly straightforward as they will likely be similar to fetch quests where players must collect materials. Wayfarer quests will feature exploration or guiding NPCs to a specific area. Hunts will likely take on the form of a combat trial where players must kill enemies, while grand hunts imply the same mechanic but with bosses.

So far, Team Cherry has revealed a few of the limited use consumable tools that Hornet can craft in the game. The first is a straight pin which can be launched as a projectile at enemies, or upgraded into a trio to be thrown in a spread pattern. Hornet is also able to craft Sting Shards which can extend spikes while being suspended mid-air, or it can be bounced upon to reach greater heights. The Pimpillo bomb is a craftable option which explodes on impact dealing AoE damage. Though the finer details of the tools have yet to be revealed, Hollow Knight: Silksong is already shaping up to be a different experience from its predecessor.

The new quest log and crafting systems appear to be designed with the new playstyle of Hollow Knight: Silksong in mind. Since Hornet has the ability to talk and interact in depth with NPCs, the quest log system will be beneficial in helping players understand the world around them. Moreover, the crafting system gives Hornet unique offensive and defensive capabilities while being centered around her nimble playstyle. With these new changes in mind, Hollow Knight: Silksong is shaping up to be an exciting sequel to the original Hollow Knight.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently in development for PC and Switch.
