Animal Crossing: New Horizons Highlights New Content for March 2021

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is nearing its one year anniversary, meaning dedicated players have now spent an entire year in their virtual village. This in turn means that the content that was in Animal Crossing: New Horizons at launch is now rotating back into the game, giving players who missed out the chance to better-complete their collection of fish and bugs, as well as take advantage of other events specific to the spring season.

To catch Animal Crossing: New Horizons players up to speed, Nintendo has released a helpful video detailing what’s new in the game for March 2021. For northern hemisphere players, this means being able to once again catch tadpoles in ponds and orchid mantis bugs in flower patches. However, fans may be most interested in the new sea creatures that are in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for March 2021, as the deep sea diving feature wasn’t available when the game originally launched. The video showcases one of the new sea creatures that Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans will be able to catch: spider crabs.

Besides having some fresh bugs and fish to catch, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can also look forward to new limited-time events in March. March 10 is designated as Mario Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and players will have plenty of Super Mario-themed items to collect and celebrate with. Animal Crossing: New Horizons will have St. Patrick’s Day-themed items available in March as well as part of the Shamrock Day celebration.

Some plant-life will becoming back in season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons in March as well, like bamboo trees. Bamboo trees can typically be found on Mystery Tour islands that players travel to, and then they can be-replanted at one’s own island. The bamboo itself can be harvested from the trees to craft unique items. However, it should be stressed that bamboo trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will go out of season again in May, so those interested should be sure to act fast.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been such a massive success for Nintendo, and so it wouldn’t be surprising if the company figures out a way to extend its life even further. Nintendo has not announced plans for any additional Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates for 2021 beyond the Super Mario update, so fans will have to wait and see on that front.

Now that Nintendo has provided fans with an entire year’s worth of free content updates, perhaps the company could think about releasing some more substantial DLC in the form of an Animal Crossing: New Horizons paid expansion. While Nintendo has shown a willingness to expand on its games with paid DLC in recent years, it has made no indication that it plans on doing so with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so fans of the game shouldn’t hold their breath.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
