Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been slowly building itself up after a rough launch, and one of the latest fan favorite features to make a comeback is Gun Game. Unfortunately, not all Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans are happy with its design in the latest game, and some are asking to see some big changes made.
Gun Game made its return in the Season 2 update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and the party game keeps the same premise that it has always had. Players need to be the first to secure 20 kills, with each enemy defeated seeing them switch to another weapon. Players start with secondaries, move to ARs and SMGs, and then go on to Tactical and Sniper Rifles. Like always, the final tiers are the most challenging, though this is where players have taken issue with the most recent version of Gun Game.
While the first 18 tiers progress as normal, the 19th Gun Game level strips weapons from the player entirely. Instead of using any of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s guns, players must get a kill with their fists. This process can be extremely tedious, as players need to land two consecutive punches on a gun-wielding opponent to kill them this way. Considering that there are radar pings that prevent sneaking, this tier is becoming a major headache for players.
The issue was highlighted in a Reddit post from TulkSmash, with the post earning several upvotes and comments that back up the points made about the mode feeling “slow.” Other issues highlighted by the fan include the lack of leaderboards for the mode as well as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s killcam system not showing the actual final kill. With many players going for fancy finishes to their match, taking away a proper final kill from Gun Game is understandably frustrating.
Still, the Redditor’s focus seems to be on fixing the melee-focused tiers, particularly the fists. The player’s suggestion is to remove the punching entirely, bumping down the knife to tier 19 and replacing tier 20 with a tomahawk. They would also like to see the knife removed when the Crossbow is added later in Season 2. While players are supposed to have some difficulty with the final tiers, making two melee kills in a row a requirement seems a bit harsh.
With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s issues with melee hit detection known, there is even more of a reason to dislike the back-to-back melee kill requirement. For now, though, players will just have to wait and see if Treyarch takes this feedback into consideration.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
