Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is undoubtedly a popular game, but a bug caused by a server outage is making the game look a lot more active than it is. Though this Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War problem is known about and being worked on by Activision, it comes at a frustrating time.
Not only do many players set aside time on the weekends to enjoy Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but the fact that the game just recently began its second season of content makes this server outage even more untimely. Players looking to grind out new prestige levels, explore the new 6v6 map Apocalypse, or try out the Death Machine scorestreak are unable to do so. The server problems are not limited to multiplayer either, meaning that Zombies fans are currently unable to enjoy Outbreak mode.
One other troublesome aspect of the outage is that players are unable to access the shop, meaning that fans may miss out on some of the items that are currently in the store – such as the highly anticipated Samantha Maxis bundle. Unfortunately, this could be the case, as Activision has provided no ETA as to when the servers will be live again. According to the server status page, “the incident is still open,” and Activision is working “as quickly as possible” to bring the game’s servers back online.
While this issue is disappointing for many, some Call of Duty fans are making jokes about the screen that appears when attempting to log-in to the game. Telling players that the servers are experiencing a high number of active players, fans are shown an infinite waiting screen where they are placed in an endless queue. As shown in a post from Redditor MyRightOpinion, the player’s wait time is set to an absurd 71,582 minutes. Similar posts exist on Reddit as well, with the bugged screen appearing for many fans.
Hopefully, the outage is fixed quickly like past Call of Duty server outages. For now, though, there is no ETA on when the servers will be live once again, so players should keep their eyes on the social media accounts for Activision, Treyarch, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Regularly checking the server status page would help as well, as Activision Support is using it to provide updates every several minutes.
While servers for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are down on all platforms, other Call of Duty games appear to be fine. As such, players desperate for Battle Pass levels can turn to Call of Duty: Warzone, while multiplayer fans can load up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for the time being.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
