Today, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players were treated to the latest Mr. Sakurai Presents video featuring the game’s newest DLC fighter, Pyra/Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Near the end of the presentation, it was revealed that the characters would release today alongside the game’s 11.0.0 update. And while fans are excited about a new DLC fighter, they seem to be even more excited about the new update’s character adjustments.
Every time a new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update is released, it is seen as somewhat of a gamble by the game’s community, as their favorite character could either be buffed or severely nerfed upon any given update. Now, Ultimate‘s latest update has Pichu players rejoicing, while Wario players lament their fighter’s newest adjustments, as both characters begin to trend on Twitter.
After the game’s 11.0.0 update released, players quickly flocked to view the latest patch notes to see whether their character had benefitted or suffered from the new update. Aside from Pyra/Mythra’s release, characters like Zero Suit Samus, Palutena, Joker, and most notably Wario received severe nerfs, while Pichu in particular received buffs that had fans predicting the character taking a top spot on future tier lists.
Even though the fan-favorite Pichu was originally introduced to the Super Smash Bros. series in Melee primarily as a joke character with the core mechanic of damaging itself upon attacking, players have used Pichu professionally in both Melee and Ultimate as a show of skill. However, after Pichu hadn’t been performing well in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the 11.0.0 update now has Pichu taking less damage when players use the character’s side smash, forward air, forward throw, side special, and up special attacks. Additionally, Pichu’s ears no longer count as part of its hurt box during its neutral air attack.
As for Wario, although many fans not involved in the Super Smash Bros. community chimed in to post artwork and memes of the popular character on Twitter, more tweets came from players who despise playing against Wario than those who actually use the character competitively. Fans expressed their relief on Twitter at Wario’s up tilt attack receiving a nerf in hit detection time, as well as the character’s formidable Waft down special attack having its speed decreased.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s 11.0.0 update also brought along with it new Monster Hunter-themed Mii Costumes, as well as a Costume based on Arthur from the Ghosts ‘n Goblins series. Now, some fans already look forward to which character will be announced next for the game, with many hoping for Crash Bandicoot to make an appearance, but for now, only time will tell.
