‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’ Reveals First Look At Fennec Shand

This year will be jam-packed with new titles from the Star Wars universe. With several film and television projects set to release in the next few months, fans of the ever-growing franchise have a lot to look forward to. Up next to debut on Disney+ is Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the highly-anticipated animated series about a group of genetically-mutated experimental clones. Aside from the fact that it will follow-up on the events that occurred in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, one of the most exciting things about the show is that it will feature a fan-favorite character from The Mandalorian: the mercenary sharpshooter Fennec Shand.

In anticipation of the series’ debut, Lucasfilm dropped a first-look image at the animated version of Shand on their Instagram stories. Sporting the same black attire and trademark ponytail that she had in The Mandalorian, the image received mixed reactions online, with some people questioning the ‘Tomb Raider-like’ quality of the animation.

Nevertheless, fans are still excited to see how Shand’s story will unfold in The Bad Batch. To recap, Shand was initially featured in Chapter 5 of The Mandalorian, where she first appeared to be a target for Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), the beskar-clad Mandalorian of the Bounty Hunters’ Guild. After a cat-and-mouse game that led to her apparent death at the hands of another bounty hunter named Toro Calican, she suddenly reappears later in the series, seemingly resurrected from the dead and now working alongside Djarin to protect Grogu, “The Child.”

In comparison to that storyline, The Bad Batch will follow the exploits of a much younger Shand through the Dark Times when Emperor Palpatine was still ruler. The series will follow The Clone Wars, which was set after the events in Revenge of the SithMing-Na Wen, the same actress who portrayed Shand in The Mandalorian, will lend her voice to the animated version of Shand.

Additionally, she is also set to make appearances in another Star Wars project titled The Book of Boba Fett, which will be set within the timeline of The Mandalorian. A post-credits scene pictured Boba Fett and Fennec Shand occupying Jabba’s former palace, so the story could be about the duo’s goal to seize power on Tatooine. Temuera Morrison will return to the Star Wars universe to play the titular hero, carrying his legacy forward into a new generation for the franchise.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch will debut on Disney+ on May 4.
