The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind Mod Imagines if McDonalds Existed in Tamriel

Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls games have been entertaining PC gaming and RPG fans for twenty-seven years. Since the release of Arena back in 1994, the series has simply improved in sheer scope, visual appeal and overall popularity, and despite everyone talking about Elder Scrolls 6 at the moment, some fans are still tinkering with and modding the older games, such as the ever-popular Morrowind.

Released in 2002, The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is considered one of the most beloved installments of the franchise, with a dedicated modding community that has kept the game fresh and interesting. Now a recent mod has brought a very modern real-world entity into the realm of Tamriel: a McDonald’s restaurant.

Uploaded to Nexus Mods earlier this year, the modder has built a digital version of the fast food chain in the town of Balmora, the second-largest town/city next to Vivec. Called McDagoth’s, the restaurant contains the famous Golden Arches outside, with a fully replicated menu inside and even a staff uniform. The main difference here is that instead of a Big Mac, McDagoth’s sells Big Guar burgers and Skooma shakes. According to the mod page itself, players will also be able to get armor. There may even be talks of allowing more franchises to be opened in other towns and cities. Of course, the mod is purely aesthetic, but it’s certainly a unique take on the series. Even though the game is nearly two decades old at this point, fans were still interested in seeing a fast food joint inside the game.

This is not the first time McDonald’s has been stacked alongside gaming. Just last month, the company issued 25th anniversary Pokémon cards, one of which sold for $500 on eBay. A couple of years ago, someone even managed to get a copy of Doom to run on an official McDonald’s cash register. It shows just how dedicated the modding community can be.

Morrowind has enjoyed nearly twenty years of mods, with people tweaking the visuals, adding new features, fixing bugs, or even creating a multiplayer feature. As recently as last year, there have been talks about a Morrowind remake being done in the Skyrim engine. With everything the modding community has to offer the game, a fictional McDonald’s restaurant is arguably not the most bizarre, but it does show that there is still plenty of life left in the somewhat aged game.

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is available now on PC and on Xbox consoles via backward compatibility.
