As Dead by Daylight approaches its 5th anniversary, there has been a ton of killers unleashed into the Fog. Whether or not those characters are pulled from famous works depends heavily on who’s willing to license their IP, but ultimately, public pressure from fans and separate interest from movie companies has led to many famous monsters making their way into Dead by Daylight. Even still, long-time fans of the franchise are still surprised when Behaviour Interactive manages to bring a new spin to its game with each new killer.
The newest take on the 4v1 horror game is a collaboration between Dead by Daylight and a K-Pop producer for BTS, named DJ Swivel. The new chapter titled “All Kill” will also feature a new survivor, Yun-Jin Lee, and the killer, The Trickster. The Trickster is a crazed K-Pop singer named Ji-Woon Hak, who uses the screams of his murder victims as inspiration for his new music. In his origin story, Ji-Woon became jealous of his bandmates and lets them die in a fire as punishment. This sends him on a murderous spree before his producer, the aforementioned Yun-Jin Lee, catches on to him and stops his misdeeds. The Trickster enters the fog of The Entity with Yun-Jin Lee, as the K-Pop star looks to punish his former producer for ending his murderous spree.
Dead by Deadlight‘s Chapter 19 Trickster is a killer that primarily focuses on hitting survivors with a flurry of blades from a distance, but also has a bat with a sharp edge for up close mayhem. His perks focus on revealing and herding survivors as they try to escape the fog. Ji-Woon’s Starstruck perk takes advantage of his star power, making all survivors in his terror radius suffer from Exposed while he is carrying a victim. The Hex: Crowd Control and No Way Out perks block escape routes to keep the survivors within this star’s reach, while the new killer also has a difficulty rating of easy, meaning that new players to the game should be able to play him without much difficulty.
The Trickster’s special ability revolves around throwing knives, as he has honed his skills through years of practice entertaining people at his family’s restaurant. While Ji-Woon is in his Throw State, players can press the attack button once to throw a single blade or hold the button to unleash a flurry of sharp blades. Throwing more than one blade will increase control but reduce movement speed. Just like Dead by Daylight‘s other ranged killer the Huntress, players can refill Ji-Woon’s blades at the nearest locker.
K-Pop has been one of the fastest growing trends in recent years due mainly to the rabidly devoted fan base. This music genre inspires and uplifts multiple generations everyday, and offers communities across the world a new way to connect over something they love. So it should come as no surprise the same level of intense love that this game has received because of this new DLC. Fans have been swooning over Ji-Woon Hak, and have been creating incredible fanart of the Trickster for Dead by Daylight. Whether smiling, smirking, or shirtless, Ji-Woon Hak has captured these fans’ hearts as well as they’ve captured his image.
There are some that may not agree with this choice of new content. Dead by Daylight DLC has missed the mark with licensed and unlicensed killers in the past, although Behaviour Interactive has been able to better balance its killers as it sees them interact with players in real time. Until the Trickster drops, players will just have to plan their exit routes and practice sneaking away from the killer in order to be ready for Ji-Woon’s arrival.
Dead by Daylight is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
