Developer Bandai Namco has finally released a trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s third DLC episode, called Trunks: The Warrior of Hope. The latest Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC, set to launch Summer 2021, takes place 13 years after the Android saga as Trunks and Gohan prepare to battle Android 17 and 18.
After months of fan speculation, an official trailer for the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC debuted at the end of the Dragonball FighterZ’s Battle Hour tournament. Starting around 2:11:21, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s producer Ryosuke Hara introduces the first footage of Trunks: The Warrior of Hope DLC. The trailer begins with the death of Goku, followed by the defeat of the rest of Earth’s greatest warriors at the hands of Androids 17 and 18. It concludes with a shot of the presumed heroes of the story, Trunks and Gohan.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has been fully embraced by fans despite the game’s lukewarm reception from critics. Bandai Namco’s latest action RPG in the long Dragon Ball franchise surpassed 1.5 million units sold in its first week alone. While the game’s ambitious scale won over the hearts of many players, this same ambition seems to have slowed the development of its DLC episodes to a snail’s pace.
Content updates have been few and far between since Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s release, leaving players frustrated by the slow progress. After a seven-month gap between DLC 1 and DLC 2, the silence regarding Kakarot DLC 3 ignited fan speculation and frustration. Though Bandai Namco’s trailer has finally shed some light regarding the conclusion to the game’s season pass, the Summer 2021 release window places the launch of its third DLC at around another seven months since DLC 2.
The poor reception to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s DLC releases has as much to do with a lack of content as it does the delayed release windows. The game’s first DLC failed to meet fan expectations, as it favored boss battle episodes rather than original story content. The second DLC, A New Power Awakens – Part 2, followed a similar pattern of training for an explosive boss fight. The boss fights have proven challenging and engaging, but many fans had hoped that the DLC content might expand on stories through new characters and events.
While the third DLC provides fans with a fun trip back to the Android saga, players will hopefully get an opportunity to explore new story content that doesn’t involve intense training before a climactic boss fight with Androids 17 and 18. Fingers are crossed that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot gets a second season pass that amends the mistakes of its predecessor. Despite some frustration, the Dragon Ball community has never been known to shy away from more content.
