Loop Hero is packed with a variety of resources for players to farm, but some are easier to get than others. The Astral Orb is the hardest, as it is tied to rare enemies that will only appear due to direct player intervention in the loop. This means that luck will need to be on their side if players are ever going to see an Astral Orb drop in their game. The Astral Orb is used to build late-game upgrades to the camp, so players won’t need to try farming it too early.
While much of the game is quite random, there are ways for players to manipulate the loop and what type of enemies will appear by using specific tile combinations. Some of these combinations will alter tiles that have already been placed, while others will directly impact the type of monsters that will appear.
To get Astral Orbs, players will need to defeat Mage and Cosmic type enemies, and these happen to be the rarest enemies in Loop Hero. Players can use some clever tricks to get them to spawn, but stumbling across them randomly could take hundreds of runs. Below, players will find methods to spawn both Mage and Cosmic enemies.
An easy Mage enemy to create in Loop Hero is the Vampire Mage. To do this, players can place a Vampire Mansion tile on the loop, then place the Bookery tile in an adjacent spot. From that point on, the Vampire Mansion will spawn Vampire Mages, giving players a chance to fight a Mage-type enemy on each circuit of the loop. Any battle that takes place on a tile that is out of range of a Vampire Mansion but within range of a Temporal Beacon tile will spawn a Watcher, which are classed as Mage enemies. Finally, an Abandoned Bookery will spawn a Tome enemy on adjacent tiles, giving players plenty of options for how they wish to spawn Mages.
To spawn a cosmic enemy, players can begin by placing 10 Rock or Mountain tiles, as this will cause a Goblin Camp tile to appear randomly on the loop. It is a good idea to place the first 9 Rock and Mountain tiles down in a 3×3 grid to create a Mountain Peak, as this will provide additional health and resources to the hero. If players then use an Oblivi0n card to destroy the Goblin Camp while a Goblin is still on the tile, they will fight a Dark Slime the next time they pass the tile, which is a Cosmic-type enemy.
Long runs, where players can take on as many of these Mage and Cosmic type enemies as possible, are recommended for trying to get Astral Orbs. This means players will need access to as many healing potions as they can get, so upgrades to the Herbalist’s Hut are recommended.
Players will need to wait until they are in the later chapters of the game to really try to farm for Astral Orbs, as many of the enemies are tied to cards that will only become available after unlocking buildings and camp upgrades, but any player that is eager to start the farming process early will find that Dark Slimes can be spawned in the first chapter of Loop Hero.
Loop Hero is available on PC.
