Developer People Can Fly seemingly has a hit on its hands with the upcoming looter-shooter Outriders. After releasing a final demo for the game last month prior to its official launch in April, Outriders quickly became a Steam top-seller and has officially been downloaded over two million times as of Thursday, March 4. All of the attention this demo has received is being used to improve the final game, and one subject People Can Fly pointed out specifically is complaints regarding screen shaking.
An Outriders dev revealed the two million player milestone in a one-week update post for the demo on the r/outriders Subreddit. After that the post dug deep into everything planned to fix the demo itself as well as its full launch down the line, including bug and connectivity issues as well as adding new settings such as a motion blur toggle. A number of things were changed during maintenance on March 5, but there are a few items of note the developer is still looking into.
At the top of People Can Fly’s list of things to address is camera shake during dialogue and cutscenes. Thursday’s Reddit post says this will not be addressed in the demo, but the team is investigating what can be done based on player feedback that there is too much shaking. A potential fix currently suggested is removing the 30 FPS restriction from these Outriders scenes.
Also listed in these to-be-addressed notes are matchmaking that takes longer than expected, systemic problems with the game’s cover system “on a global level,” items disappearing from player inventories, and some players cheating or taking advantage of “obvious exploits.” The Outriders demo and full release will also see general polishing leading up to April 1, according to this Reddit post.
Another problem People Can Fly hopes to address is exploits related to farming gear. The Outriders demo is “redirecting” farming efforts so players will grind out high-level gear the intended way, rather than taking advantage of unintended activities that “do not feel to be within the spirit of the game.”
While there is a laundry list of concerns to address, this is to be expected of a sci-fi looter-shooter in the vein of games like Destiny. That People Can Fly had the foresight to release an Outriders demo with hopes of improving the final product is admirable because it gives players the chance to bring up concerns that might otherwise fly under the radar, such as many fans’ desire to reduce screen shaking.
Outriders will release April 1 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
