It’s easy to get lost in the world of Skyrim, as it offers tons of unique locations, quests, and side activities for players to adventure through. From time to time, players may find themselves stuck or trying to get into an area that seems inaccessible, particularly when it comes to the game’s Dwarven ruins. For those looking to break into the biggest ruin in the game, here’s how to get into Bthardamz in Skyrim.
Bthardamz is nestled on the western edge of Skyrim, north along the border from Markath, almost in line with the Shrine of Peryite that lies to the east. At first glance, Bthardamz is a bit intimidating due to its sheer size, though it isn’t as run down as some of the ruins in the far northern parts of Skyrim’s map. However, players will soon find that Bthardamz is inaccessible, and it will remain so until players start a particular quest, so there are a few steps for players to complete first.
To get into Bthardamz, players need to start Skyrim’s quest “The Only Cure.” The quest is triggered by a random encounter, where players run into one of the Afflicted after reaching level 10. Alternatively, players can make their way to the Peryite Shrine and speak to Kesh, who will give them “The Only Cure” quest at level 12. Players will then need to gather some ingredients for one of the quest’s steps, a silver ingot, a deathbell flower, vampire dust, and a flawless ruby.
After completing those steps, players will be tasked with defeating Orchendor in Bthardamz, making the location accessible to them. Dwarven ruins, especially the size of Bthardamz, pack an impressive amount of loot, which can be a big help early on in the game, if players pursue the quest as soon as they’re able to. Of course, Dwarven ruins can also be deadly, so it’s a good idea to go in stocked with potions, especially for those with non-magic builds.
And that’s pretty much all there is to getting into Bthardamz. It’s one of the more interesting locations in Skyrim, particularly because of the group that inhabits it and the questline that’s associated with it. While it can be confusing to figure out what needs to be done to access it, once inside, players will have a ton to explore, and that exploration is central to everything that Bethesda’s most-famous RPG has to offer.
Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
