Earlier this year, Chris Evans made news for refuting reports that he might reprise his role as Captain America/Steve Rogers in future MCU films. Now, the actor has shared a funny video of his friends mocking him on the set of Captain America: The First Avenger.
Evans’ contract with Marvel Studios ended following Avengers: Endgame. At the end of Avengers: Endgame Steve Rogers used the Infinity Stones to travel back to the 1940s so that he could be with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Steve’s arc concludes with him handing over his shield to Falcon/Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and the ramifications of that decision will be explored in the upcoming Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
In 2018, Evans suggested he would never play Captain America again. He tweeted, “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day, to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.” Earlier this year, it was reported that Evans was nearing a deal to reprise his role as Captain America in at least one future MCU project. However, Evans immediately shut down these rumors by tweeting, “News to me” with a shrug emoji.
The Marvel star was in the news once again after he shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes video from the first Captain America film. Evans tweeted that when he filmed The First Avenger in 2010, two of his high school buddies were his “assistants.” In the 45-second video, his friend Jon was seen largely unimpressed by his friend’s stunts. Jon nodded his head in disapproval after Evans dove into the water after a HYDRA agent and leaped across the HYDRA base. At one point he even said, “He will fall…I hope he falls.” The video has accumulated more than 1 million views in just 24 hours.
Evans is set to reunite with the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War) for the Netflix spy thriller The Gray Man. The film is based on Mark Greaney’s 2009 debut novel and will follow a freelance assassin (Ryan Gosling) who finds himself hunted across the globe by his former CIA cohort (Evans). Billy Bob Thornton (Fargo), Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), and Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page will also star in the Netflix thriller. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are credited for polishing the Russos’ screenplay.
The Gray Man is reportedly Netflix’s most expensive film to date. The upcoming blockbuster started filming last month in Los Angeles. In a recent interview with Barstool Sports, the Marvel directors stated that the film is a “modern interpretation of a spy thriller” inspired by the Bond franchise. Joe Russo jokingly said that Evans will “flex quite a bit in this role.”
Captain America: The First Avenger is now available on Disney Plus.
