Although its release is fairly recent, Loop Hero is already picking up success. A new take on the rogue-like genre, Loop Hero is a breakout success on Steam and will likely grow more popular in the immediate future.
With simplistic graphics and auto-battling gameplay, Loop Hero looks simplistic for the most part. However, there are several levels of knowledge to pick up in terms of resource management, tile placement, and item combinations. Players are introduced to this through The Warrior, the very first character class available at the game’s start. Here’s a guide to making the most out of the Warrior’s simple, but effective, playstyle.
The Warrior is not so much defined by unique mechanics as by the lack of many unique mechanics. While the other character classes in Loop Hero have specialized tactics necessary to make the most of them, the Warrior can be piloted without worrying to much about these. As such, knowing basic tips and tricks for Loop Hero is all anyone needs to make the Warrior effective, but not the level of effectiveness necessary to fully beat Loop Hero.
Without fantastic evasion options like the Rogue or an army of minions to absorb hits like the Necromancer, the Warrior needs to be sturdy. High Defense is even more important on the Warrior than other classes. Using potions can help with this, so keep such consumables handy, and regeneration is also useful in this respect. It is frequently more useful than vampirism in fact, since the Warrior is usually better at taking damage than dealing it.
Also helpful in this regard are certain tiles and tile combinations. Laying down many mountains can help keep max health high, so long as the resulting Goblin Camps can be safely neutralized. Making a mountain peak is even better, especially since harpies are easier to deal with than the goblins.
Certain perks are exclusive to the Warrior, and choosing the right ones can really make or break a run. As mentioned above, potions are useful, but Strong Aftertaste, which uses them to increase attack damage, is really only useful if taken early on. Far better is the Article of Protection, which grants a shield equal to 65% of the Warrior’s health. Again, this is not the same as playing the Necromancer who has minions to fall back on, so the Warrior player must be a tank all on their own.
Loop Hero is available exclusively on PC.
