Overwatch 2: Everything We Know About Sojourn | Game Rant

Overwatch is filled with a wide variety of heroes from many different places all around the world. The next hero to be added alongside the release of Overwatch 2 will be former Overwatch captain, Sojourn.

Sojourn has appeared in multiple pieces of Overwatch media even before her reveal as an upcoming playable hero. Earlier designs for her character have appeared in both the “Recall” animated short and the video for Ana’s origin story. She additionally made her first voiced appearance during the Storm Rising game mode where she was on radio support for the player-led team.

Alongside being the first playable Canadian Overwatch hero in the game’s roster, Sojourn is also the first playable black woman in Overwatch. She is voiced by Cherise Booth who has also provided voice work for Crash Bandicoot 4, Voltron: Legendary Defender, and XCom 2.

Story-wise, not too much has been revealed about Sojourn. She was one of the captains of Overwatch, although she didn’t seem to be involved in the faking of her death like many others in this role. After Overwatch was disbanded, Sojourn laid low in Canada until Winston recalled the team together again. During the 2021 Blizzcon, more was revealed about Soujorn’s performance in gameplay when she will appear for Overwatch 2. In combat, she wields a powerful railgun as a DPS hero with 200 base health. Her exact abilities and ultimate are still unknown, but the icons for these abilities can be seen in the officially released footage.

Soujorn’s right click attack with her railgun seems to be where most of the mechanics were focused on. The center of the screen displays a charge meter similar to Widowmaker’s scope. This charge displays how much damage the railgun will do with each shot taken with the right click decreasing this meter, yet it caps out at 100, with it being able to be charged seemingly via damage output with normal fire. What makes this railgun fire do effective is in how it seems that it can penetrate through multiple enemies at once at this point in development.

The other abilities that are unknown are mapped to the left shift key and the E key. The left shift ability features and icon that appears as an arrow with motion lines behind it. This may be a dash ability similar to Soldier 76, but nothing has been revealed about it. Meanwhile, the icon for the E key ability is a circle with encircling motion lines surrounding it. This abilities function is also unknown.

Two different icons have been seen in the released footage regarding Sojourn’s ultimate. This likely just means that the icon has been updated as time went on and not that Sojourn has two different ultimate abilities like Symmetra in the past. The newest icon seems to show multiple shots flying, likely from Sojourn’s rail gun. Footage of this ultimate shows the rail gun glowing with the previously mentioned meter rapidly increasing as it is being used. This probably means that the ultimate will allow players to run rampant with the railgun shots without worrying about the meter.

It is unknown if more will be revealed about Sojourn’s gameplay before Overwatch 2 is released or the next Blizzcon. Until then, fans will have to keep their eyes on what’s already been shown.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
