Overwatch players are always finding unique character and map exploits to help give them the upper hand. Many times these tricks are discovered shortly after a new hero is added to the game, and the new hero is able to make use of a map in special ways no other character can. Other times exploits are found for some of the oldest Overwatch characters due to the sheer expertise of that character’s playerbase. In this case, Reinhardt players have figured out a neat trick on the Oasis map that provides them with a positioning tactical advantage.
Reinhardt has been one of the most consistently good heroes throughout Overwatch‘s lifespan. In early stages of the meta he dominated as a protector with incredible amounts of shield health who could also decide to surprise poking enemies with a Fire Strike to the face. Though his shield health was eventually nerfed, he remains a fairly consistent pick in competitive play, especially by players who favor his more aggressive moves. He also benefitted from buffs during an experimental update in December 2020, though many thought these Overwatch buffs made Reinhardt overpowered.
Slow play with Reinhardt currently suffers due to the current meta seeing a lot of fast setups starring Wrecking Ball. An experimental mode patch testing multiple character nerfs has reduced some DPS characters’ effects on tanks like Reinhardt, though, and he can still do serious damage if he manages to get behind his enemies. One trick on Oasis requires Reinhardt to make excellent use of his Charge attack in order to reposition himself and surprise the enemy. As most Overwatch players know, the jump pad on Oasis will launch a character into the sky, and the most difficult part of this trick is the timing of the Charge to land perfectly on top of the arch. Overshoot it or fall short and Reinhardt is likely to take a beating from an entire grouped team. But with a perfectly timed jump and some patience, a lucky Reinhardt player can drop behind an enemy team just as they’ve crossed under the arch, Earthshatter the entire team, and mop up with the big hammer. Now that the recently extended Season 26 of Overwatch is drawing to a close, Rein mains can jump into Season 27 with this trick as an option.
This trick requires some aggressive play from Reinhardt, and that’s likely to become more common for the big guy in the future. Reinhardt’s potential rework in Overwatch 2 could give him two Fire Strikes and the ability to cancel his charge. This Reinhardt build would definitely lean more toward mobile, aggressive play, and tricks like this one on Oasis serve as good practice for players looking to master this side of Reinhardt in Overwatch.
