It’s in a Witcher’s job description to contend with all manner of dangerous foes. In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Hybrid enemies should never be taken lightly. As an amalgamation of two different species Hybrids can be versatile when it comes to their offensive capabilities.

Geralt of Rivia is one of the best in the business when it comes to monster hunting. Nevertheless, it’s still up to the player to decide how best to utilize the tools at his disposal. Confronting some of the tougher Hybrids requires skill, patience and, above all, preparation. With everything in place, no Hybrid of any type will stand a chance against Geralt.

5 Harpy

A Harpy isn’t a pretty sight to behold. A cross between a woman and a bird, these flying pests shouldn’t be underestimated. They stick to high-elevation areas and usually don’t provoke attacks on their own. However, messing around with their nests will invite swift retribution in return, courtesy of their sharp talons.

A Harpy by itself is no problem. The difficulty stems from their strength in numbers. Like wolves and ghouls, they tend to swarm Geralt in packs. They will typically try to dive-bomb him from different directions in order to gain the upper hand. A good strategy is to utilize the Aard Sign rather liberally to knock them from the sky. Once on the ground, Harpies pose little danger and can be dispatched quickly. Grapeshot bombs are also an excellent choice. Their area-of-effect damage can deal tremendous punishment if thrown into a group.

4 Griffin

Griffins are said to be noble and courageous creatures. The death they’re able to deal from above is swift and decisive. As half-eagle and half-cat the Griffin possesses an aerial advantage that’s coupled with a strong melee attack. Their tremendous body mass make them extremely durable opponents.

For one, coating Geralt’s blade in Hybrid oil is a good first step. As with Harpies, using Aard is a great tactic for keeping a Griffin off-balance. It’s on the ground where the majority of damage needs to be dealt. A well-aimed crossbow bolt can also down the mighty beast. Be prepared to dodge in order to avoid the Griffin’s tackle ability. Variants include the Royal Griffin and the Archgriffin. Royal Griffins are simply bigger, while Archgriffins can spit acid as an additional attack. Opinicus is a unique example of an Archgriffin.

3 Siren

Sirens may look beautiful on the outside, but that’s just their ploy. Using their angelic voices they lure lonely sailors to their deaths, as anyone who has read Homer’s Odyssey should know. The game’s bestiary remarks that Sirens were once on friendly terms with mankind. Those days, however, seem to be long gone. Ekhidnae, like the evil Melusine, are their larger cousins.

Sirens are very aggressive and tend to launch their attacks while out at sea. Like other Hybrids, they like to strike in packs. Sirens tend to swoop from the water, into the air, and then eventually at Geralt. Their sharpened talons and tails serve as their main weapons. A good strategy involves utilizing Igni to set them ablaze and deal some damage. Knocking them from the sky using Aard is also useful. A grounded Siren is easy pickings to an extent. As a last-ditch effort to survive, wounded Sirens will emit an ear-piercing screech that can stun the player for a time.

2 Erynia

Erinyes, also known as Furies, are similar to Harpies in their combat tactics. Found mostly on the Isles of Skellige, they are often said to be even more dangerous than their Harpy cousins. While attacking as a group, an Erynia can actually cause bleeding damage when utilizing their sharpened claws and talons.

Because Erinyes are more dangerous than regular Harpies, large groups of them are especially difficult to handle. The bleeding damage can take its toll if a player isn’t careful. Using Igni to light them on fire in order to ground them is a viable option. Knocking them to the ground with Aard is the most tried-and-true method of dealing with them. Individual Erinyes can be killed quickly by counterattacking at the right moment with Geralt’s silver sword. Lastly, Grapeshot bombs are effective at thinning the herd.

1 Succubus

Succubi are described as largely nonviolent creatures in the world of The Witcher. They are driven solely by lust as they continuously seek out willing participants who will satisfy their needs. In appearance, a Succubus resembles a Satyr, taking on a half-goat and half-human form. Their horns and hooves can often serve as weapons when cornered.

In addition, a Succubus can also utilize fire as part of their offensive repertoire. If kept off-balance for long enough, Geralt can make relatively short work of a Succubus with his trusty silver sword. However, unlike other Hybrids, violence doesn’t always need to be the answer with a Succubus. For example, Salma, encountered in the quest “Deadly Delights,” can be convinced to leave peacefully. They are the only Hybrid in the game that can be reasoned with in this manner.
